An Garda Siochana Virus
An Garda Siochana Virus is a new variation of Ukash Virus, that has spawned such dangerous applications as FBI Moneypak, West Yorkshire Police, Metropolitan Police Virus and so on. An Garda Siochana Virus (or Ireland's National Police Service Virus) targets users in Ireland. It is a ransomware application and it means that it holds target computer "hostage" until the user involved pays a definite amount of money in order to "unclock" the computer.
According to An Garda Siochana Virus, the user's computer is locked due to various illegal activities. This malicious application tries to pass for a legitimate representative of law enforcement authorities, and many users actually believe its lies. Naturally, everyone can panic when there is no way to access one's desktop and all one sees is this huge message all over the screen, saying that the police has locked your computer. Not to mention that An Garda Siochana Virus also warns the user that he might face an imprisonment sentence for his "crimes". Here's an example of the message displayed by An Garda Siochana Virus:
And Gardia Siochana
Your computer has been locked by the automated information control system (AICS)
What is the reason?
1. Your computer has been used to view banned Web sites
What should I do?
An Garda Siochana Virus even has a cheek to say that it made things easier for you, by providing a secure payment gateway. Basically, this ransomware does all it can to lure you into paying your money for a totally worthless service. Not to mention that, even if you do pay, there is no guarantee that An Garda Siochana Virus will unlock your computer (most probably it will not). This infection is not concerned with your computer's safety, therefore, you need to remove An Garda Siochana Virus from your system yourself. To get rid of this ransomware, follow these instructions:
1. Reboot your computer and press F8 while the system loads.
For Windows XP:
1. Follow the steps above from 1 to 3.
