ConverterSearchTool

ConverterSearchTool is one of the many potentially unwanted programs that come from the same group of apps that promise to help you convert something. Most of the time, users don’t even know how the likes of ConverterSearchTool enter their computers. They end up scrambling to remove ConverterSearchTool and other similar programs from their systems because they think those are dangerous infection. Although these programs are far from actual malware infections, removing them is the right thing to do. You can find the removal guidelines at the bottom of this description.

The reason we’re saying that this ConverterSearchTool comes from a big family of similar apps is that it is true. This app is practically identical to ConvertItSearch, ConverterSearchHd, ConverterSearchNow, and many other apps. They all share similar homepage layout, and they reach target computers employed very similar distribution tools.

Now, ConverterSearchTool just like all of its “siblings” will have several ways to reach you. First, it could be added to your browser through the official homepage. The site for this app is located at portal.convertersearchtool.com. It is very likely that the majority of users who want to delete this app will have added it through the official site directly. However, we feel obliged to tell you that the app DOES have an official homepage, and so, it is hard to categorize as a malicious infection because it doesn’t hide its presence.

Also, it used to be possible to find ConverterSearchTool at the Chrome Web Store. However, at the time of writing, the page for this app at the Chrome Web Store is no longer available. This gives us the impression that the page was removed because there’s something suspicious about the app. It should be enough of a proof that ConverterSearchTool isn’t 100% reliable. If the Chrome Web Store removed the page, there must be something off about this app.

What’s more, the official sources are just part of the distribution network. ConverterSearchTool could also come bundled with freeware or through random pop-ups. If you download freeware from file sharing websites, please be aware of the fact that third-party installers tend to carry additional apps and features you don’t bargain for. If you go through the installation automatically without checking all the steps, you could easily end up with the likes of ConverterSearchTool on your browser. And then you will end up wondering where these programs came from, and how you could remove them.

In a sense, if you don’t notice how this application enters your system, it might seem that ConverterSearchTool is a browser hijacker because it performs a number of browser modifications. However, most of those modifications are performed with your authorization (even if you are not aware of it). For instance, when you add this extension to your browser, you automatically agree to change your default search provider. This app changes the search engine to its portal, but the truth is that it employs a modified version of the Yahoo! Search page. Of course, Yahoo! Search has nothing to do with this application, and the domain is simply used to provide you with search results.

And here comes the truth about this app: although ConverterSearchTool says that it can help you convert files and what not, it’s really there to promote third-party commercial content with the intention to generate some financial profit. This kind of practice is not illegal or anything, but it exposes you to potentially harmful content because ConverterSearchTool cannot review what kind of links are embedded in the search results that it promotes. Hence, if you want to avoid redirections to unreliable websites, you should remove ConverterSearchTool today.

Deleting ConverterSearchTool is easier than you think. Since this application is compatible with the Chrome browser, you just need to reset the Chrome settings to default. Aside from that, you should also scan your computer with a reliable antispyware tool because there could be more unwanted apps installed, and you need to remove them all.

However, even if you employ the best security application out there, it will not help you filter out all potential threats if you do not change your browsing habits. Stay away from unfamiliar websites that offer you all sorts of software. Download apps only from official vendors to avoid potential threats.
