Nebula Search

Nebula Search is not a versatile extension. All it offers is a search service, but it is not very useful at helping people browse the web. That being said, the most concerning thing about this PUP (potentially unwanted program) has to do with users’ privacy and security. According to our researchers, the extension can collect information and can employ data-tracking tools to do it. Furthermore, information can be shared with third parties that are not disclosed in a transparent manner. There are only a few details we know about these parties. To put it simply, the PUP is very mysterious, and considering that the services offered by it are not that great, we recommend deleting it without any hesitation. If you want to learn how to remove Nebula Search, or if you still have questions about this PUP, please continue reading. Continue the discussion in the comments section if you have further questions.

At the time of research, the Nebula Search extension did not have a dedicated website. It could, however, be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store, which, to many, is a trusted app source. If you used the chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nebula-search/cocggcllacaaodbjobopljfooknipmle installer to acquire the PUP, you must have been convinced that the extension can offer a beneficial service; even if the official description does not reveal any benefits. Perhaps you were routed to the installer of the PUP randomly? Perhaps the installer page took over the screen, and you could not seem to close it? There are tons of different marketing tactics that can be used to push suspicious PUPs, but we do not claim that you have been forced to install Nebula Search as well. Maybe it came attached to a seemingly useful tool, and you installed it without thinking about it twice. Regardless of how exactly the PUP was installed, if it exists, it is a good idea to perform a full system scan. This will only take a few minutes, but you will know what it is that you need to delete from your system in the end.

If Nebula Search is the only suspicious piece of software that exists on your system, you might think that you can just ignore it. After all, it does not show pop-up ads. It does not distract you. In fact, you might forget that it exists at all. After installation, it sets find.nebulasearch.net as the default search provider, but it redirects to a popular search engine, and you might not notice a difference if that search engine was your default provider previously. According to the description attached to the installer on the Chrome Web Store, Nebula Search is meant to introduce you to Bing. When we analyzed the PUP, it redirected to Google instead. In either case, the results were not modified. That being said, the Privacy Policy at nebulasearch.net/privacy/ informs that third parties, which include “advertising companies and advertising networks,” can display advertisements as well as place tags and beacons. Therefore, it looks like there is a possibility that the results shown by Nebula Search could, potentially, be adjusted to show ads. So, do you want to keep this strange, seemingly useless tool, or are you choosing to remove it?

You need not to worry about deleting Nebula Search because this is a simple-structure extension that does not have any additional components. You can remove it just like you would any other unwanted Google Chrome extension, and if you need a reminder on how to do it, check out the guide below. If you wish to clear cookies and site data to get rid of the potentially placed data-tracking tools, we advise clearing browsing data as well. Steps that show how to do it are included in our manual Nebula Search removal guide. While getting rid of this PUP should not cause problems, if other threats exist – and you know if they exist if you have performed a full system scan – implementing a legitimate anti-malware program should be useful. This is the program you want installed at all times because it can ensure that your system remains secure and threat-free in the future.
