MusicStreamSearch

Are you interested in streaming music online? If you are, MusicStreamSearch is not an extension for your needs. Its name is misleading and confusing, but if you have found it on the Chrome Web Store (chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/musicstreamsearch/iniikfkjnpiciagnlieilpiokoejmidp), you must know that it is identified as a “single purpose extension.” According to our researchers, all that it can offer is access to a third-party search engine. Unfortunately, it employs Yahoo Search, and because it is well-known, some people might think that the service is harmless. The thing is that the PUP (potentially unwanted program) is able to modify the results you see. Due to this, we recommend that you remove MusicStreamSearch without further hesitation. Are you interested in learning more about the suspicious extension? Continue reading. Are you here to delete the PUP right away? Check out the guide below.

At some point, MusicStreamSearch could have been downloadable from get.musicstreamsearch.com, but when we analyzed the PUP, this source did not work. The Chrome Web Store was still offering its installer, but it warned that the PUP could change default search settings and also read browsing history. Without a doubt, third-party downloaders could be employed for the distribution of an extension like that. At the end of the day, it does not look like the creator of this extension is all too interested in serving Google Chrome users. We cannot say for a certain that this creator stands behind RadioSearches, AllMoviesSearch, StreaminSearchs, SearchOpedia, and numerous other PUPs, but they are identical to MusicStreamSearch. Without a doubt, this suggests that quantity is valued over quality. Truth be told, these PUPs do not offer quality services. Their “portal” pages (MusicStreamSearch, for example, is linked to portal.musicstreamsearch.com) offers free widgets, but that is pretty much it.

After installation, MusicStreamSearch changes the default search provider. That is something you already know. Feed.musicstreamsearch.com is the search tool that replaces your regular provider, and it is also the search tool that you get redirected to via portal.musicstreamsearch.com. If you think that trusting this search engine is a good idea, we have bad news for you. The results it shows via Yahoo Search are modified, and so there is a big chance that you would end up clicking on ads and, perhaps, search-unrelated links when interacting with the shown results. Basically, the PUP is useless and can expose you to unwanted ads. This is not all that we are worried about. According to our research team, the PUP also collects information about its users. Some of it is personally identifiable, which is very unnerving. The worst part is that undisclosed third-party partners might be able to access this information, which automatically puts you at some level of risk. What are the intentions of these parties? Can they be trusted? How can they use information about you? We do not have answers to these questions, and the unknown surrounding the PUP is the worst part.

Do you have a reason to keep MusicStreamSearch installed? Considering that it is pretty much useless and unreliable, we doubt that you do. Therefore, we suggest getting rid of this potentially unwanted program as soon as possible. If you have any doubts about the removal of this PUP, we’ve got your back. The guide below shows how to delete MusicStreamSearch from Google Chrome manually, but if this is not the best option for you, we also can offer you a trustworthy anti-malware tool that will automatically examine your system and help you eliminate active threats. Whichever option you choose, we also recommend clearing browsing data, which should not be hard to do if you follow steps 5-8 in the guide below. Once you are done with the PUP, we strongly recommend taking the lessons you have learned to heart because you do not want to make the same mistakes and then end up downloading another unreliable and useless extension. Note that if you do your research before installation, you will always have better chances of fending off threats yourself.
