SearchProConverter

If you downloaded SearchProConverter for your Google Chrome browser, it is most likely that you did not research this suspicious extension. If you were introduced to it via the Chrome Web Store (at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/searchproconverter/gmejdgngiaebcdgpkecabpkapidcloam), you might have been convinced that the extension is a reliable search tool that offers optimized results via Yahoo Search. The truth is that this extension is nothing but a PUP (potentially unwanted program), and it appears to have been created to collect data and, potentially, promote third-party content. If you want to use Yahoo Search, use it on its own, and never trust it when it is introduced by suspicious extensions or when you are redirected to it via a third-party search tool. If you do not yet understand why we suggest removing SearchProConverter, please continue reading. If you are ready to delete this PUP, know that a guide is already waiting below.

It does not look like SearchProConverter has an official download website. A website that is linked to it is portal.searchproconverter.com, and it should replace the New Tab page on the Google Chrome browser after you install it. The interface of this page is pretty generic. You can find a search box in the middle, and on the left side, you can find free file and currency converters as well as a calculator. For the most part, these are the things that keep SearchProConverter users interested. Other than that, the extension offers nothing useful, and considering that free converters can be found online and that a calculator might be offered by your operating system already, we classify it as a PUP. In fact, we have seen the same interface many times before, as it has been recycled by StreaminSearchs, SearchOpedia, SearchConverterHD, Sealoid, and a bunch of other PUPs. We recommend removing them all, and it looks like the same instructions can be used in every case. Although, at this point, we cannot confirm that the same creator stands behind all of these PUPs, that is likely to be the case.

SearchProConverter also should modify the default search provider, and feed.searchproconverter.com should become the main search tool. Due to this, every time you enter keywords into the address bar of your browser or into the search dialog box presented via portal.searchproconverter.com, you should be redirected to search.yahoo.com. Since the PUP promises to “optimize” the results you see, it is likely that the results you are shown are modified. The Privacy Policy that supports SearchProConverter informs that data-tracking technologies are used to gather both personal and non-personal information. Also, it informs that third parties, including vendors and advertisers, have access to some of this data. These parties might be interested in user data to learn how people respond to their content and also to learn how to create better marketing strategies. However, because we do not know the third parties who are involved, it is hard to say what kinds of goals they might have. We have to consider the possibility that these parties are malicious and not to be trusted.

We are sure that you can delete SearchProConverter yourself manually. To make the process very easy, we have created a manual removal guide that shows what steps to take for successful elimination. Our guide also shows how to clear browsing data, which is something you want to do to get rid of data-tracking tools, web cookies. This is an ideal option for those who have no other threats to deal with and those who know how to take care of their system’s security themselves. If the PUP was installed using an unfamiliar installer, bundled with other PUPs, implementing a legitimate anti-malware tool is the better option. Not only will this tool remove SearchProConverter and all other threats but also guarantee full-time protection for the entire operating system. If you want to be safe, securing the system is very important. Paying attention to what you install in the future is important too.
