Access Gov Docs Tab

Access Gov Docs Tab is an extension that is meant to help you find immigration, unemployment, tax documents, healthcare and visa application forms, and similar docs online. It is also meant to help you access “shopping and commonly used social sites,” as well as browse the web with the help of Yahoo Search. The extension is completely free and can be enjoyed by Google Chrome users. What’s not to like? Unfortunately, this extension is not exactly trustworthy, and our research team has even classified it as a PUP, which is short for “potentially unwanted program.” Without a doubt, our recommendation is that you research this extension thoroughly to figure out whether or not you want to delete it from your browser. If you have already decided that you want to remove Access Gov Docs Tab, we have created a guide that will help you do that manually. Before we get to them, let us explain why a seemingly beneficial extension has been classified as a PUP.

Eightpoint Technologies, Ltd. stands behind Access Gov Docs Tab as well as hundreds of other similar PUPs, some of which include Email Search Tools, Your Search Tool, Find A Flight Pro, Breaking News Plus, and Watch Movies Live. All of them are introduced to Google Chrome users via the Chrome web store, and chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/access-gov-docs-tab/pkcbnkckeahemigpmionfaiclhdeellf is the download page for the Access Gov Docs Tab installer. Officially, accessgovdocs.net is the website that represents the PUP. That being said, although a legitimate source exists, it is always possible that the PUP could be spread using bundled downloaders, which, potentially, could include other PUPs and more serious threats. Overall, it is very important to understand where the extension has come from, and even if you think that there are no other threats, we suggest scanning the entire system immediately. Employ a malware scanner you trust, and you will get all the information you need immediately. Needless to say, if malware is found, you have to delete it as quickly as possible because your security could depend on that.

Once installed, Access Gov Docs Tab changes the homepage/new tab/default search provider on Google Chrome to hp.haccessgovdocs.com. This page displays links to findmyforms.com and irs.gov at the top, and these appear to be the only external links that should help you find documents and forms. Since you can access these websites without extensions, Access Gov Docs Tab is pretty much useless. Besides these links, the PUP also offers links to amazon.com, booking.com, and a few other popular websites, and it also displays a search dialog box in the center. This might be the only reason this extension was created in the first place. Just like all other PUPs created by Eightpoint Technologies, Ltd., this PUP redirects search queries to search.yahoo.com, where the results are modified. During the installation, you give the add-on the permissions to read and change your data, read your browsing history, and place cookies to gather information. Using the collected data, the PUP can modify your searches accordingly, but that does not mean that you are safe. In fact, if you care about your safety, you will delete the PUP and set a much more trustworthy search tool instead of hp.haccessgovdocs.com.

The manual removal of Access Gov Docs Tab should not be complicated. All you really need to do is erase the add-on from the ‘Extensions’ list and then clear browsing data to erase cookies. That should do the trick. Obviously, if malware or other PUPs exist, you need to eliminate them as well. Another thing you need to think about is your virtual security after you delete Access Gov Docs Tab. Our researchers strongly recommend implementing anti-malware software because it can automatically delete all existing threats and also secure your system. Even if you are able to successfully erase all threats yourself, you still need to think about virtual security, and note that it is not enough to just be cautious because cybercriminals are smart and know how to trick you into letting in even worse things than PUPs. If you want to be completely safe, you need to install security software, keep up with all updates, and also exercise your own caution.
