Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

Searchsio

Searchsio might sound like a useful application that can enhance your web browsing experience. However, we are forced to categorize it as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). A PUP might not be a malicious infection, but it is not recommended to keep it on your computer if you didn’t plan to install it in the first place. Therefore, it would be for the best to remove Searchsio from your system, too. Since it is a browser extension, you can remove it via your browser’s settings. But please don’t forget that you need to run a full system security scan after manual removal.

Now, why would you need to scan your computer with a security tool? For starters, regular system scans are a good way to make sure you don’t have dangerous intruders. Also, Searchsio might be distributed with a number of other unwanted applications. So, if you have more unwanted programs on-board, you need to remove them all, too. And a full system scan is the best way to find these programs.

If you’re wondering why we are not ringing alarm bells over Searchsio it’s because this extension cannot really destroy your system or steal your personal information. What’s more, it has an official website, and it can be easily added to the Chrome browser via the Chrome Web Store. Hence, it doesn’t look like there’s anything inherently malicious about the app. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be surprising if Searchsio came from pop-ups and redirects. For instance, if you visit that online gaming site or a third-party software distribution page, you might encounter multiple pop-ups. These pop-ups will offer to add various extensions to your browser.

Sometimes pop-ups are hard to close. If that happens, you can use the Alt+F4 command to kill your browser’s process and simply restart it. Don’t panic if a pop-up doesn’t allow you to close the tab you’re on. It just does that, so you would click that Add button, but you clearly don’t need to do that.

The official Searchsio stance provided by the main website says that this extension should help you easily search for your favorite topics, images, videos, and news. However, in order to work on your computer, this extension requires multiple permissions. For example, when you add Searchsio to your browser, you give it permission to read your browsing history and to change your default search settings. The extension changes your default search engine to feed.searchsio.com. Does it mean that your web searches get optimized?

That is highly unlikely. Like most of the potentially unwanted extensions out there, Searchsio employs the Yahoo! Search engine to provide you with various search results. However, the results you see via Searchsio might be modified based on your likes and preferences. That’s what reading your browsing history does: This app finds out what kind of content you like. Why would it ever do that? Well, it needs to make a profit somehow, and so, the app indulges in third-party content advertising.

However, it only gets paid if you interact with that content (if you click the links it promotes). Therefore, by displaying content that is more related to your likes and preferences. Technically, there is nothing wrong with this kind of advertising game, but Searchsio doesn’t really review the content it promotes. So, there could be corrupt links, too. And if you click one of them, you could be redirected to a dangerous website, where more suspicious programs would be waiting for you.

To take everything into account, when a program is unwanted, it shouldn’t be tolerated. Remove Searchsio today by restoring your browser’s settings to default. Although it is possible to simply delete the extension, there might be more settings that need to be removed. So, restoring your browser to default settings is your safest best in this situation.

Also, you should scan your computer with the SpyHunter free scanner. As PUPs often travel in packs, you need to determine whether there are more unwanted programs running on your computer. By getting rid of potential problems early, you would save yourself the trouble of dealing with severe malware infections.

Finally, do not hesitate to invest in a powerful security tool and stay away from unfamiliar websites that are full of flash advertisements. If you must get a new program, download it from its official source.
