MnuBot RAT

MnuBot RAT is a banking Trojan written in the Delphi programming language. This malicious infection targets mainly computer users in Brazil, but it doesn’t mean that it cannot branch out into other Latin American countries or go global. Therefore, this description is here to tell you more about this infection, and you can also find the manual removal instructions below. On the other hand, if you do not feel you can take on this infection by yourself, you can acquire a legitimate antispyware program that will help remove MnuBot RAT for good.

Although ransomware programs are arguably the most “visible” malware infections these days, it doesn’t mean that Trojans are any less prominent. It’s just that Trojans always work in the background, and they seldom have an interface that users could associate it with. What’s more, it is hard to notice that you have been infected with MnuBot RAT or any other Trojan, unless the situation goes south. Once again, this emphasizes the importance of regular system scans with a licensed security tool. If you were to scan your system regularly, you could get a heads up about this infection in advance.

But if you do not notice MnuBot RAT, this Trojan can cause quite a lot of trouble. What’s more, it does everything it can to avoid detection. For example, we know that this Trojan makes use of the Microsoft SQL Server to communicate with its Command and Control server (C&C). Since the Trojan uses an established channel, it is harder for security programs to catch it. Also, this Trojan was developed to perform a two-stage attack. It means that it attacks your system in more than just one stage.

When it enters the target system, MnuBot RAT first looks for the Desk.txt file that is usually located in the %APPDATA% directory. If it cannot find the file, the infection creates a new Desktop that functions simultaneously with the original one. In other words, MnuBot RAT tricks the user into thinking that the Desktop they see is the real one, while in fact, it is a fake copy created by the infection. This allows the Trojan to track a user’s activity and steal sensitive information. After all, this program is a banking Trojan originally, and it has been created to steal financial information like credit card numbers, account credentials, passwords, and so on.

So MnuBot RAT monitors your activity until you supply it with certain bank names. When the program recognizes any of the bank names used, it launches the second stage attack that allows the hacker to take full control of your computer. Then the Trojan can run free and steal your personal information, infect other computers on the system with malware, and so on. It can even log the keystrokes to collect all the information you enter on your keyboard. Later on, the collected information is sent out to the C&C via the Microsoft SQL server connection, thus making it harder for users and security programs to even notice this malicious activity.

If MnuBot RAT is not removed immediately, this program can cause extensive damage. But even if you remove it, you have to make sure that similar intruders do not enter your system again. Although it is hard to tell how MnuBot RAT spreads around, computer security experts believe that it might come bundled with freeware applications or through P2P downloads. So it’s clear that you have to be careful when you download new applications on your computer. If you must have a program or a media file, be sure to download it from a reliable source because software bundles can often come with the likes of MnuBot RAT.

You can follow the instructions below to remove MnuBot RAT. As mentioned, you can also terminate this infection with a licensed antispyware tool. Automatic removal is faster and more efficient, and we always recommend it because it allows you to locate other potential threats immediately.

Protecting your system with a legitimate security application is very important, but don’t forget that your web browsing habits are just as important in ensuring your system’s stability. So be responsible whenever you are online if you want to avoid the likes of MnuBot RAT.
