Chrome Cleaner

Did you download Chrome Cleaner onto your Google Chrome browser hoping that it could make it easier for you to clear it? That is exactly what you are supposed to believe, and the information accompanying the installer on the Chrome web store (chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-cleaner/lbpddeimojmbpkbfckjpnbpehgnbpnnl/) supports the notion. According to the information, the extension – which we classify as a potentially unwanted program/PUP – can clear cached data, protect your privacy, and delete all activity. It is stated that this can improve the speed of the browser, and so some users might be lured in. At the time of research, over 67,000 users had downloaded the PUP from the Chrome web store, and the app had a positive 4.3* rating from 212 reviewers. That being said, although the extension looks legitimate and even beneficial, there are several reasons why we advise removing Chrome Cleaner right away. If you are interested and want to learn more, keep reading.

If you downloaded Chrome Cleaner from the Chrome web store, you should have noticed that the PUP is, allegedly, offered by “ccleaner.” However, no external links are offered, and so it looks like an official download page does not exist, and we could not track a website representing the developer either. One thing is for sure – the PUP is NOT related to CCleaner by Piriform in any way. Needless to say, the Chrome web store might not be the only source representing the suspicious extension. In fact, analysts in our research team have found that the program could be distributed via unreliable bundled installers, and its name could be modified too. “CCleaner” is one of the names that could represent the same program. Obviously, if you downloaded the potentially unwanted program using an unfamiliar source, it is crucial to scan the system to check if other threats were not installed. If they were, you need to delete them immediately, especially if they are more dangerous than the PUP itself. Hopefully, you can find removal guides on our website, but if you cannot, do not hesitate to post a comment below.

Even if you downloaded Chrome Cleaner willingly and on its own, this extension cannot be trusted. First and foremost, legal information is NOT available, and that means that you cannot know how this program records information, what parties it works with, or what kinds of privacy and security guidelines it follows. Although this might seem like a minuscule detail to some, our research team indicates that this might be the top reason to delete Chrome Cleaner from your operating system. The services of this extension are not beneficial either. Once you install it, you will find a button at the top of the browser, and if you click it, you will find “History,” “Cache,” “Downloads,” “Cookies,” “Website Storage,” “Passwords,” “Memory,” “Extensions,” “DNS,” and “Incognito” buttons. Does this sound familiar? That is because all of these tools are already available to you on your browser. For example, if you want to delete web cookies or clear browsing history, you can do it via the chrome://settings/clearBrowserData menu. “Incognito” mode can be turned on by taping keys Ctrl+Shift+N. To put it simply, the extension is neither beneficial nor trustworthy, and so we recommend deleting it.

If you do not know how to delete Chrome Cleaner from your browser, you can follow the instructions below. They show where to find the extension and how to eliminate it. Our instructions also show how to clear browsing data, and you should not skip this step because you do not know what kinds of cookies could have been placed to track your activity and record information about you. Obviously, if other threats exist, you want to think carefully if you should tackle every single one of them individually. Depending on the threats you face, it might be easier and more convenient to employ anti-malware software. It will quickly remove Chrome Cleaner along with everything else that deserves it, and then it will continue protecting you against PUPs and dangerous malware in the future.
