Idiot Ransomware

If you let in the malicious Idiot Ransomware, it can overwrite most of your personal files. Unlike other ransomware infections that we have reviewed recently, this threat does NOT encrypt files. Instead, it deletes the data within the targeted file and replaces it with an original text. For example, a file named “document.doc” is overwritten and changed to “document.doc.txt.” Due to this, it would be more logical to call this threat a data wiper instead of ransomware. As you might have figured out already, once files are overwritten, they cannot be restored. If your personal data was “wiped,” we hope that you have backup copies for all of your files, or at least the ones that matter to you the most, like childhood photos, work/school documents, and home videos. Whether or not you have backups, you want to remove Idiot Ransomware, and you want to do it as soon as possible. Continue reading to learn more about the infection, and you will find a complete guide on how to get rid of this threat below.

According to our malware experts, Idiot Ransomware is likely to spread using Discord, which is a free voice and tech chat used by the gaming community. The launcher should be named “The_power_of_hentai.exe,” or something similar to that. Needless to say, you want to be extra careful about the files you receive and open from now on. Once the threat slithers in, a file named “idiot.exe” is dropped in a folder that is created in the local drive (C:\Memes\Idiot.exe). The file can open several windows with the same GIF of a dancing character from Fortnite. This should be a sign that something very wrong is happening. In fact, Idiot Ransomware starts wiping/overwriting data. After it is done with that, you should discover that all of your files open the same text message. Besides that, there is no other file that the threat would create and use to deliver information for its victims. If you have faced the malicious data wiper, you already know that the text file does not offer a solution, and that is a good thing because if the attackers, for example, tried to make you pay money, you would lose both money and files at the same time.

The text message that Idiot Ransomware delivers using every single wiped file is very obscene, and it even includes racial slurs (you can see that in the screenshot). The point of the message is to inform the victim that their files were destroyed, and it appears that the attacker is seeking some kind of dominance and power. They are not asking victims for money or to follow any specific instructions, which is what cyber criminals usually want when they hide behind malicious ransomware infections. Note that we identify Idiot Ransomware by this name due to the “idiot.exe” file that is created. You might recognize it as .vscode Ransomware, PowerHentai Ransomware (due to the “The_power_of_hentai.exe” file), or DoggeWiper Ransomware (due to an image of a dog in the text message). Regardless of the name, the infection has deleted your personal data and overwritten it with text that is basically useless to you. Your files are destroyed, but you can still do one thing, and that is to delete Idiot Ransomware.

If Idiot Ransomware got in, the first thing you want to think about is the security of your operating system. Clearly, your system is not secure; otherwise, the malicious data wiper would not have slithered in. It is high time you invest in virtual security, and that is why we recommend installing anti-malware software. Once it is in, it can automatically remove Idiot Ransomware with all of its malicious components. If you are interested in deleting the infection manually, please make sure you act cautiously. First, install a trusted malware scanner, because you will want to use it at the end to figure out whether or not you have managed to clean the operating system yourself. Malware scanners are mostly free, and so there is no excuse not to use one. If you have questions about the threat, or you are struggling to delete it, note that the comments section below is open, and you can use it to communicate with our team of experts.
