StreamingTime

StreamingTime is a piece of software, a Google Chrome browser extension, that promises to enable users to access thousands of live radio stations and listen to music for free. The program seems to be very useful, so the fact that so many users install it consciously does not surprise us at all. At the time of analysis, there were 47,270 Internet users who installed StreamingTime on their PCs. Are you one of them? If so, we are sure you have found your web browser hijacked. This piece of software only alters the default search provider, so it will not be hard to undo the changes applied if you decide that you do not like what you see every time you open your web browser. To tell you the truth, we hope that you will decide to remove StreamingTime from your system completely because we cannot confirm that the search tool on your web browser is 100% reliable. In fact, the StreamingTime extension itself cannot be called fully trustworthy as well. It has been placed by specialists working at pcthreat.com in the browser hijacker category. StreamingTime is installed on users’ computers as an ordinary browser extension, so if you decide to remove it, it will not be hard at all to get rid of it. We also promise to help you to remove it manually. Continue reading for now and then use instructions you will find placed right below this article.

Some users install StreamingTime consciously, whereas others do not know anything about the StreamingTime appearance, but it is hard not to notice the changes it applies upon the successful installation. The browser extension immediately changes a default search provider to https://feed.streaming-time.com. This is not a malicious website, but we cannot call it a fully trustworthy search tool either. Yes, you could search for various songs by simply typing “stream” in your URL bar, tapping TAB or Space on your keyboard, and then inserting your search query. You should then be presented with a list of Internet radio stations playing that song. This sounds really useful, but there is one thing you need to know about this search provider – it might present you with some modified search results too when you perform ordinary web searches. These modified search results are not malicious, but they might take you to suspicious websites that do not have the smallest piece of information you are searching for. It does not mean that you will necessarily end up on a harmful website, but you need to be aware of all the risks associated with the use of the search tool StreamingTime has set on your browser. Additionally, we suspect that your searches will be recorded to get more information about your interests and your online behavior. This is, of course, far from sensitive information, but we would definitely not let any browser hijacker or suspicious program collect information automatically if we were you.

Some browser hijackers are installed on users’ PCs silently, and they find out about their entrance only when they find their browsers’ settings changed without their knowledge, but it seems that StreamingTime differs from typical browser hijackers quite a lot. In most cases, users themselves install StreamingTime from its official website https://streaming-time.com/ or the Chrome Web Store. Of course, theoretically, it might also be distributed using other distribution methods, for example, bundling. Also, you could have installed it from the advertisement or a pop-up promoting it as well with a single click. Research has clearly shown that this browser hijacker is the most active in the United States, China, South Africa, Egypt, and the United Kingdom, but it does not mean that you cannot encounter it if you do not live in any of the aforementioned countries.

If you have decided to remove https://feed.streaming-time.com from your Google Chrome browser, you will do that with a few simple clicks because you will just need to delete the StreamingTime browser extension that has set this new search tool on your web browser. You should follow our instructions if you have never erased any browser extension yourself manually. We are sure a reputable antimalware tool would detect StreamingTime and remove it for you within seconds as well.
