Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

BabyNameReady Tolbar

BabyNameReady Tolbar is the newest Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. product. It promises to provide users access to the collection of popular and unique baby names. It claims that it uses data provided by the U.S Security Administration. If it is true, it means that users do not need to have BabyNameReady Tolbar installed to be able to access the list of names. At the time of research, there were 16 257 Google Chrome users who, apparently, decided to give this piece of software a try expecting that it will work extremely beneficially, and it is very likely that its popularity will increase. Even if it becomes popular software, you should not click the Download/Install button consciously because it has turned out that it is a typical potentially unwanted program. It was not a surprise for our analysts – almost all Mindspark toolbars tested were categorized as potentially unwanted software. They are not dangerous programs, we can assure you, but they are not considered fully trustworthy software either because they often act in an undesirable way. You can find more about BabyNameReady Tolbar in the next paragraph. You should carefully read the information provided in it if you cannot decide whether or not you should remove it or simply want to find out how to get rid of it too.

We do not try to convince you that BabyNameReady Tolbar is an extremely bad program because it is not. Of course, we do not say that it can be trusted 100% either. The first thing our researchers have noticed is that BabyNameReady Tolbar is not very beneficial software because websites with baby names whose links it provides users with can be accessed without its help too. As research conducted by specialists at pcthreat.com has shown, BabyNameReady Tolbar only sets a new page on users’ web browsers. It changes both the default homepage and New Tab URL. The page set does look like an ordinary search tool because it contains a search box and several quick-access links. They open popular websites like Facebook, Amazon, and Gmail. On top of that, users find links of websites containing baby names, baby videos, and other baby-related content among them. This does seem to be a useful feature, but you should not forget that there are other ways to quickly access those websites without the help of BabyNameReady Tolbar too. Specialists do not like the search tool promoted by BabyNameReady Tolbar as well. They have observed that it might display some modified search results to users. These are search results replaced with sponsored links. They open third-party websites when users click on them, so there is a possibility to end up on dubious pages. Finally, you should know that information about you will be collected automatically as long as BabyNameReady Tolbar stays active. Luckily, details it records are the so-called non-personally identifiable information, so this piece of software should not cause you any privacy-related problems. Of course, it does not mean that you should let a potentially unwanted application to freely gather data about you because it might be disclosed to unreliable third parties.

Even though many users get BabyNameReady Tolbar from its official website http://www.babynameready.com/index.jhtml or the Chrome Web Store (if they use Google Chrome), it does not mean that all of them install it consciously. We are sure there are people who cannot even explain why this piece of software is active on their computers. According to our researchers, these are users who click on advertisements promoting this browser plugin or those who download tons of free software from the web but install it on their computers quite carelessly. BabyNameReady Tolbar is, without a doubt, not the only potentially unwanted application you might find installed on your computer. Luckily, it does not mean that you cannot do anything in order not to end up with undesirable software. In our opinion, what all users should do is installing reputable security software on their systems.
