Pdf2DocPro is an extension for your Google Chrome browser that, supposedly, can help you convert documents to PDFs and vice versa. According to the creator of this extension – PERION NETWORK LTD – it is an extremely useful tool, but our research team does not agree with that. In fact, we classify this extension as a potentially unwanted program (or “PUP”), and that is because it modifies the browser’s settings, and it also collects information that can be shared with unknown parties for marketing purposes. Overall, although the extension is not malicious, its usefulness is highly questionable, and it is possible that it could be dangerous to trust it. Because a possibility of facing security issues exists, we strongly recommend removing Pdf2DocPro from your browser immediately. It appears that there are two different versions of the suspicious Pdf2DocPro extension. The official download page, pdf2docpro.com, presents the 1.1.0.43 version that has over 4,000 users. It is available at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pdf2docpro/ndgiipgjbobbpfaoceclhnckcagimhcn. The other version, 1.1.0.2, at the time of research, had 14 users, and it was linked to pdf2docpro.com as well. This version is available at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pdf2docpro/finccmbmjdmhdcdjkfkkfdkbodjgelpc. The version with the fewer users was updated in June 2017, while the one with more users was updated in November 2017. Regardless of which one of these you download, you want to remove them because they are not trustworthy. The Privacy Policy representing both of them suggests that personally identifiable information could be recorded accidentally and that it could also be shared with undisclosed parties to show more relevant ads and content. Do you expect to see advertisements? If you do not, you might encounter them without even realizing it because, most likely, they would be shown via the search engine.

According to our research, once Pdf2DocPro is installed, it might change the New Tab and the homepage to search.pdf2docpro.com. Our tests, however, showed that the PUP changed only the New Tab with chrome-extension://ndgiipgjbobbpfaoceclhnckcagimhcn/html/newTab.html. In the center of the page, a search field is displayed, and below that, you are presented with easy-access links to Gmail, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Walmart, and several other well-known online services. At the bottom of the page, you are shown tools that are meant to help you convert documents, as well as to translate any chosen text. While you should be cautious about everything related to the PUP, you need to be most cautious about the search tool. As the Privacy Policy revealed, you might be shown advertisements and “relevant” content by the extension after it records information about you, and the search engine is perfect for that. Even if the results are shown via a search engine you are familiar with, you need to be cautious because you do not want to be tricked into interacting with modified results that are full of ads and sponsored content. This is why the removal of this PUP is strongly recommended.
