Type: Potentially Unwanted Application is a Yahoo-powered search engine enabling searchers to access air travel-related information. The search engine contains a themed toolbar containing links to websites offering flight booking, flight monitoring, and other related services. The service is provided by Eightpoint Technology Ltd., but managed by Polarity Technologies Ltd, which is already known to malware researchers due to its browser applications that in most cases alter browser settings and cause some inconvenience to users. The search engine is spread by a browser application named My Flight App, which falls to the category of potentially unwanted programs (PUP). Some researchers categorize the search engine as a browser hijacker because the changes on the browser can be made without prior notice. In any case, it is advisable to remove and restore the former settings to prevent unwanted redirections to questionable third party websites.

My Flight App is a browser extension for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. The version for the Chrome browser is available at, where no highly specific information about the extension is provided, only that the extension enables you to check and track flights. The section providing additional information contains only a link to Polarity's privacy policy. All that you can find is that by using Polarity's services, you agree to be monitored by the service provider. Your search terms, which may contain personally identifiable information, clicks, advertisements viewed, and some other details, including technical characteristics of your device, are recorded and may be shared with third parties. This data is likely to be used for marketing purposes, which usually means that you could receive some targeted advertisements based on your preferences.

However, the Chrome store is not the only website from which computer users can get the My Flight App extension. If you are sure that you have not purposely installed the application or agreed to have the settings changed, that suggests that you have been deceived by some bundled file. A bundled file contains more than one program, and My Flight App might have been the additional application installed alongside some other program. To prevent such incidents, do not click on pop-up ads, web banners, and other third-party content that pops up to your screen while browsing the Internet or just using the PC, because one of those pop-ups may be ruinous.

Moreover, the two search engine, and collect information about the user’s behavior just like many other search engines do, but that does not mean that they are as reliable as the most popular and publicly acknowledged search providers.
