Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

MoviesNow Search

MoviesNow Search is a potentially unwanted program similar to nJoyMovies Now, nJoyMusic Search Plus, and so on. Thus, just like the earlier versions created before it, the application might change user’s default search engine with an unreliable search tool that could display modified results and possibly suspicious advertising content among them. Clearly, the software does not appear to be trustworthy, and if you do not want to take any chances, we would advise you not to waste any time with it. Further, in this text, users can find more information about the potentially unwanted program, for example, the article will explain how it works, how it could enter the system, and why it might be risky to leave it be. Naturally, since we recommend MoviesNow Search removal we will place deletion instructions as well; you can find them at the end of the article.

At the moment, the extension is compatible just with Google Chrome, and it can be found on Chrome Web Store page where it is described as a tool that lets you see “movie results” and “get more from your browser.” However, our researchers doubt MoviesNow Search can enhance user’s browsing since it looks like it might be using google.com to gather the results, although not all of the content among the results could be displayed by Yahoo. Apparently, the potentially unwanted program might be using a modified version of search.yahoo.com, which means it could be able to inject the results with advertising content from various third parties. Moreover, we also learned the application’s End User License Agreement states it may gather “whether personal identifying information or not” and use it to perform “analysis about your use of, or interest in, our products, services or content, or products, services or content offered by others.”

Unfortunately, neither the potentially unwanted program’s End User License Agreement nor its Privacy Policy paper explain what exactly these “products, services or content offered by others” could be or where it might come from. More than that it looks like MoviesNow Search’s developers disclaim all warranties and state they do not take any responsibility for the third-party content. Under the described circumstances, it seems to us there is a chance some of the advertisements could be potentially dangerous as they may originate from any source, including malicious web pages. For instance, the suspicious ads could lead the user to scam pages, to sites distributing unreliable software installers, threats like browser hijackers, adware, or even malicious programs, and so on. We cannot be one hundred percent sure, but we believe the potentially unwanted program could show suspicious ads via search results, and so we do not recommend surfing the Internet with it.

Furthermore, besides the Chrome Web Store page and the tool’s official distribution website (playzonenow.com), MoviesNow Search might be spread via bundled software installers, unreliable pop-up advertisements, and so on. Our researchers say in such case you may install it accidentally as well if you do not pay a lot of attention to the installation process or add new software on the system without even getting more information about it. For example, if the potentially unwanted program is bundled with another application the user may install MoviesNow Search unknowingly by not choosing advanced or custom installation settings since it might be the only way to deselect it. If it sounds like something you might do, we advise you to be more cautious in the future and consider acquiring a reliable antimalware tool that could keep the system safe.

Lastly, we would like to talk about the application’s removal. As you realize it, we recommend its deletion because it may show potentially dangerous advertising content. Not to mention it might be distributed through unreliable channels and could also replace user’s default search engine. If you do not think MoviesNow Search can be trusted either, we encourage you to follow the deletion instructions you should see at the end of this text or install a reliable antimalware tool and let it erase the suspicious extension for you. Users who have more questions about the program can leave us a message in the comments section too.
