Secure Chrome PRO

Secure Chrome PRO is a Google Chrome extension that was classified as a browser hijacker. The application fell under this category because it might change user’s default search engine with a doubtful tool that has no Privacy Policy or End User License Agreement and could show potentially dangerous advertising content from the third party. Further, in this article, we will explain more about the plugin, and it’s provided search engine, so if you came across it, we recommend reading our full article to learn more about it. Moreover, if you decide you do not want to leave this browser hijacker unattended, we could help you eliminate it if you just take a look at the instructions available below this article. They will explain how to remove Secure Chrome PRO manually.

At the moment, Secure Chrome PRO can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store page (chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/secure-chrome-pro/balaejcnclfobnenddbghfljcjnkmfed). There the application has a description saying “Get protection from online threats like unrecognized / fishing / virus websites ! in ONE click !” There is no other information, including links leading to the software’s Privacy Policy (PP) and End User License Agreement (EULA) documents. Thus, it is difficult to understand how a user could download such a tool when there is so little known about it. For instance, without the PP paper, the user cannot know what kind of information the extension may gather and how such data might be used or even shared with other interested parties. In other words, there is a possibility the program could violate the user’s privacy by collecting his private data or sharing it with third parties. As for the EULA document, without it, the user does not know how the program could behave. For example, it might be able to update itself automatically or install new applications without asking any permission.

Furthermore, if the user decides to add Secure Chrome PRO on his Google Chrome, it should ask for the following permission: “Read and change all your data on the websites you visit.” Allowing a browser hijacker to act this way might be not the best idea, for example, this may enable the threat to inject the web pages you visit with various advertisements and some of them may originate from unreliable or even malicious web pages. To give you an example, the ads could promote scam web pages or other browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs, adware, and so on. Our researchers also believe such ads could appear while searching the Internet with the plugin’s provided search engine called defendsearch.com. After the installation, it should become your default search engine, which means all search queries would be redirected through it, although the results themselves might be displayed via a modified google.com version.

Naturally, given there is not enough information about Secure Chrome PRO to consider it as a trustworthy application and the chances are the plugin or its provided search engine could show you suspicious advertising content, we do not think it would be wise to leave it installed. In other words, we recommend removing this browser hijacker before anything goes wrong. After it is gone the user should be able to replace the default search engine (defendsearch.com) with a more reliable one, for example, google.com, search.yahoo.com, etc.

One of the ways to get rid of Secure Chrome PRO is to find the data created or modified by it and erase it manually. Such a task may take some time and might require bit patience, but if you think you can handle it, we encourage you to follow our provided deletion instructions available at the end of this article. The other way to deal with the browser hijacker is to install a reliable antimalware tool, scan the system, and then click the given removal button. This way you could clean the system both from this suspicious plugin and from other possible threats.
