nJoyMovies Now

Some of you may think nJoyMovies Now is a trustworthy browser extension, but our researchers have no doubt it is just another potentially unwanted program (PUP) that could show you possibly malicious advertising content. For anyone who would not like to risk encountering such ads, researchers recommend removing this application with no hesitation. This you can achieve either with a preferred antimalware tool or while following the deletion instructions added at the end of this article. Another reason we advise erasing this PUP is that we doubt whether it can be as useful as it is advertised. The software’s creators claim it can provide quick access to movies, trailers, and similar content. However, after testing it ourselves, we think you can find such material same fast with google.com or any other reputable search engine. The difference is with a reliable tool you would not have to risk your computer’s safety. Users who want to learn more about this suspicious application should continue reading our text.

At the moment of writing, nJoyMovies Now can be found on Chrome Web Store page (chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/njoymovies-now/ajimmahlgkihfdkmhchpkmmkimboifdo). The given description says “nJoyMovies Now is a new Chrome Extension double feature - Quick and easy Movie search, with a beautiful, completely adjustable New Tab!” The first mentioned feature is a small window with a search box and movie genre categories. Our researchers say the user can access it after pressing the PUP’s created icon located on the top-right Google Chrome’s corner. It works similarly to a search engine, and so we are almost one hundred percent sure you could find the movie content you like with Yahoo or Google search engines too; if you just pick correct keywords.

The other nJoyMovies Now feature is a personalized homepage or new tab page. To be more precise the extension replaces user’s homepage with a specific search engine. It also allows to choose one of the provided pictures as a background wallpaper for the given search engine, adds a phrase greeting the user, for example, “Good afternoon, Anna,” shows time and weather, and suggest a few links to popular social media web pages, etc. No doubt the idea of a personalized start page for your browser might look quite tempting, but keep it in mind the provided search engine cannot be trusted. Apparently, it may redirect the user to a suspicious server called movix.eanswers.com and then to modified search.yahoo.com results. Our researchers say it means the PUP could add various pop-ups, banners, sponsored links, or other untrustworthy ads from the third party among the collected results. For example, the software’s creators might do so to generate advertising revenue from your clicks.

The bad news is the ads nJoyMovies Now might show you could be possibly malicious. We see such a possibility because the PUP’s creators take no responsibility for any third-party content; they claim so in the software’s End User License Agreement document. Also, neither the mentioned paper nor the extension’s Privacy Policy explains from where such ads might come from or what they may advertise. For instance, the Privacy Policy only says the application could use information collected about the user for “delivering targeted content and advertisements that may be of interest” to him. Without knowing where the ads could originate from or what they might promote there is a risk perhaps not all, but a part of them might introduce you to other PUPs, adware, browser hijackers, or even dangerous threats like viruses, Trojans, etc. Therefore, it seems to us it would be safer to get rid of it before anything goes wrong.

If you think nJoyMovies Now is a rather worthless piece of software as well, we encourage you not to keep it on your browser any longer. The instructions available at the end of this paragraph will show how to delete the PUP from the only browser it is currently compatible with (Google Chrome). In case the task looks a bit too complicated, and you would like to use automatic features instead, we recommend downloading a reliable antimalware tool of your choice. All you would have to do is set it to scan the system and then click the removal button after the process is complete.
