Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

Brality

Brality is yet another tool that makes really no sense to have on your computer since it has no beneficial function and it might well put your computer at risk. This new application only works in Google Chrome. We have classified it as a potentially unwanted program, or PUP, but it may also pass for a browser hijacker as it can change your default search provider setting. Having this PUP in your browser can indicate that you had not done your research before installing it or you installed it unknowingly, which brings us to the bigger system security issue. Namely, there could be malware infections on your computer that may have entered your system along with this PUP. This obviously means multiple threats to your system. If you do not want to be exposed to questionable and downright malicious third-party web content, we suggest that you remove Brality right away. Let us tell you more about this PUP so that you can protect your PC more efficiently against similar future threats.

Our research shows that this PUP is an identical clone of a previous one called Pracember. As a matter of fact, the promotional page (brality.com) of this browser extension looks exactly like that of this other tool, pracember.com. This page has nothing to offer other than a "Click here" button. Even though you can find links to the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, somehow these links are dead, i.e., not functioning. When you cannot find out about these legal documents related to an application or website, you should be very careful about it. This, in fact, could be the first sign that you should delete Brality if it has already sneaked onto your system. The other official place where you can directly install this PUP is the Chrome web store, chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/brality/gghpcjhjifkoojkmdooebifjgmfknaao. It seems that over 12 thousand people have thought that they could benefit from such a useless tool since its release at the end of this October. However, if you are a security-minded user, you always do your web search before downloading or installing any new tools. This is the only way for you to find out that you are dealing with a PUP or a malware infection that you should rather delete than install at all.

What is even worse, this PUP can also be found spreading in free software bundles. This also means that you can install this tool without noticing it since bundle installers are usually designed to be deceptive. So even if the installation wizard offers you notifications about browser setting changes, these may be done in a concealed or hard to see manner. Most users try to get it done quickly and choose the quick installation option instead of the custom one. This is yet another issue since you may not even see the whole content otherwise. If you want to avoid infecting your computer this way, you should never use questionable file-sharing pages to download free files or click on random third-party advertisements, either. You can also be exposed to unsafe ads and content if your PC is infected with adware, for example. In this case you can never be safe while browsing the web. Thus, we advise you to delete Brality and scan your system with a trustworthy malware scanner as soon as possible.

Practically, you may not even realize that this tool has been installed in your Google Chrome browser because it does not even show you a search page. All it does is change your default search engine to brality.com. However, this URL simply redirects all your searches to a Google search results page. This is why it is totally redundant actually. Why would you need such an extension when you can go to Google straight and use it safely; well, as safely as it gets? So when you try to use your address bar in Chrome to search the web, your keywords would be first sent to this search engine, which is not even for real since it will forward your keywords to Google. This PUP may collect information about your browsing habits, which is always risky in the wrong hands since customized content could be shown to you. This may be exploited by cyber criminals. If you do not want to let further infections onto your computer or get scammed on a malicious page by sharing your banking details with crooks, you may want to remove Brality from your browser.

We have included our solution below for you to follow. Please use our guide if you do not mind a bit of manual work, i.e., removing this extension via the Extension Manager of your browser. Do not forget about the more serious threats that could be hiding on your computer. If you leave even potentially harmful programs, chances are you could be exposed to dangerous content. If you want to defend your PC more effectively, it may be time for you to invest in a proper anti-malware program like SpyHunter.
