Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

OnlineMusic Search

In this text, we will discuss a potentially unwanted program known as OnlineMusic Search. The application falls under such classification because of its suspicious behavior. Apparently, the extension can replace user’s homepage, search provider, or new tab page with an unreliable search engine that might redirect the user to some server and as a result, display him untrustworthy search results. Therefore, if you were looking for a program that could let you find favorite music, we would advise you to replace OnlineMusic Search with a more trustworthy tool, for example, YouTube. If you decide to do so we can help you eliminate the potentially unwanted program manually; all you have to do is follow the instructions we will place at the end of the article. For more details about this application, users could read the full text.

First of all, let us begin with OnlineMusic Search possible distribution channels. Our researchers who tested the application say it is quite similar to other potentially unwanted programs, such as FilmsApp Search or MusicApp Search. Thus, just like the mentioned extensions, it could be distributed through various unreliable pop-up ads. For instance, you may encounter them while visiting suspicious web pages or they might be shown to you by some threat that was downloaded accidentally too. If you add tools without thinking too much or researching them first, we would advise you to be more careful in the future. Downloaded from suspicious file-sharing pages or other untrustworthy sources software installers could be bundled with various threats, for example, browser hijackers, adware, and so on. This is why you should stay away from doubtful file-sharing web pages and carefully review the information provided by the configuration wizard.

If OnlineMusic Search enters the system, it is essential to mention it should affect only Google Chrome, since at the moment of writing the potentially unwanted program is not compatible with any other browsers. The first thing our researchers noticed about it is that the application may change the mentioned browser’s default search engine, it is possible it could affect other preferences to, but we did not notice it during the time we tested it. Furthermore, it was discovered that after the user submits a search query, it might be redirected to a server called music.eanswers.com and eventually to a modified search.yahoo.com. It means the displayed search results could be altered and this might be done just to place additional advertising content among them. In fact, we would not be surprised if it appeared to be true. It is because the given search engine does not look advanced or any better than the same search.yahoo.com. In other words, we do not see any other purpose of creating such a tool than to have an opportunity to generate advertising revenue.

The problem is, if OnlineMusic Search could show users advertising content there might be not knowing where it could originate from. The extension’s End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy documents do not say where exactly the ads may come from. Moreover, in these mentioned papers the tools creators state they do not take any responsibility for the third-party content or for their product itself. It looks like there are no guarantees the extension will “BE FREE FROM VIRUSES, "WORMS," "TROJAN HORSES" OR OTHER HARMFUL PROPERTIES” either. Under these circumstances, we would advise you not to take any chances with OnlineMusic Search and get rid of it if you do not wish to come across annoying or suspicious third-party advertising content.

Erasing the potentially unwanted program manually could be a rather tricky task, so if you decide you want to do this on your own, we recommend at least using the instructions we will place below the text. Nonetheless, if the removal process seems a bit too difficult even with the provided steps, it might be best to leave this task to a reliable antimalware tool instead. All you have to do is make sure the tool you pick is legitimate and trustworthy. Then the user should install the tool he picks, set it to scan the system and click the provided deletion button once OnlineMusic Search and other possible threats are detected.
