Mind Ransomware

If you have found some of your files with a new extension .mind, it means that a new ransomware infection Mind Ransomware has infiltrated your computer without your knowledge. You are lucky if you have encountered its original version that has been developed for educational purposes because there might be a way to unlock files it has encrypted because it drops a file with a unique key. Needless to say, cyber criminals will not give it to you if they ever take over Mind Ransomware and start distributing this malicious application seeking to obtain money from people easier. In such a case, you will be offered to purchase an expensive decryption tool or key that can unlock the encrypted data. There are many cases when users do not get anything from cyber criminals because they see no point in sending the decryption tool to victims when they receive what they have always craved – the easy money. Because of this, our advice is always the same for users who encounter ransomware – delete this threat as soon as possible and do not even think about transferring the ransom it demands.

If you have encounter the so-called educational version of Mind Ransomware, you will find only a handful of your personal files encrypted because this version only encrypts files it finds in %USERPROFILE%\Desktop. In other words, all files kept on Desktop will be encrypted and get a new extension .mind appended to them. Files will not be unlocked even if you change the extension of these files or somehow manage to remove it, but you could use the key located in key.txt, a file Mind Ransomware drops on Desktop after the entrance, to get your files back. Unfortunately, you could not unlock your files for free if cyber criminals ever start Mind Ransomware using as a tool to obtain money from people. You could only purchase the decryptor from them, but specialists say that it is the worst users can do. They say so because they know well that users might not get the promised decryptor or get a completely useless tool from cyber criminals even if they send the money required. If you do not want to support malicious software developers by sending them your money, you can always restore your files from a backup. Of course, it will only be possible to do that if you have ever made a backup of your files.

Mind Ransomware is not one of those typical ransomware infections. It differs from many other threats specialists at pcthreat.com have classified as ransomware in a sense that it applies significant modifications on compromised machines. No, it will not touch your system files and will not ruin your Windows OS, but it will disable your Task Manager, Registry Editor, and CMD right away. Also, it will disable other system utilities. There is no doubt that it does that so that users could not easily remove it from their systems. Do not worry; we are sure you could erase this threat with our help even if you are not an experienced user.

It is not very easy to talk about the distribution of Mind Ransomware because this infection is not spread actively and has not infiltrated many computers yet. Despite the fact that not much is known about its dissemination, our specialists still have a theory. According to them, this infection should be spread via spam emails, and, on top of that, cyber criminals might put them on file-sharing websites so that more users would infect their PCs with it. Other ransomware infections might be spread similarly, so since you know how such threats usually travel, it should be easier to prevent them from entering the system too. If you still do not trust yourself, you should install a security application on your system. It will help you to keep the system safe and sound.

You will not be allowed to delete Mind Ransomware from your system if you do not enable some system utilities, so we suggest that you start the ransomware removal from doing that. Instructions you will find below this article will help you to undo the changes and erase it, but keep in mind that it is not the only way to get rid of it. You can clean your computer automatically as well. You will just need to perform the system scan with a trustworthy scanner once.
