New Tab Aid plugin

If you have recently installed a browser extension called New Tab Aid plugin on your Chrome web browser, then you are in for an unpleasant surprise. We have tested it and found that its primary objective is to generate advertising revenue by showing promotional links in the search results of the search engine that comes with this plug-in and is set to replace your browser’s search provider. Clearly, it is mostly useless, so you ought to remove it whenever you get the chance because you cannot be certain where this program’s ads come from as there is no information about its developers.

Currently, New Tab Aid plugin is available for Google Chrome only, so all of you that use other browsers need not worry about this program sneaking into your PC. For those of you who use Chrome, we recommend that you stay away from it because it comes from an unknown source. We have found that this extension’s developers have somehow got it onto the Chrome Web Store. Indeed, you can get it from a legitimate distributor, but do not think that this program is entirely legitimate. We have also received information that New Tab Aid plugin can come bundled with rather questionable software installers that feature it as an additional browser extension. Some of those installers can let you uncheck its installation while others might hide and install it automatically without your knowledge or approval. Furthermore, you might get it accidentally by clicking pop-ups and advertisements on shady websites.

If you happen to get New Tab Aid plugin onto your web browser, then it will automatically replace Chrome’s search provider with a custom Yahoo search engine. We have found that the customized search engine can feature additional promotional links injected by the developers of this browser extension. As a result, you will see additional promotional links along with regular search results. The problem is, however, that there is no way to distinguish legitimate links from those supplied by New Tab Aid plugin. This program is all about making money because it offers nothing of value that could improve your browsing experience.

Furthermore, the customized search engine could gather some anonymous information about you to personalize the search results and ads that you get when you enter as search query. We think that the custom Yahoo search engine can obtain information such as your browsing history, search queries, IP address, Internet Service Provider (ISP,) approximate location, browser type, operating system type, and so on. The advertisers behind this program can use this information to show you customized advertisements that come from unknown sources. So, you should not expect them to be relevant or safe to click for that matter.

In conclusion, New Tab Aid plugin is a highly unreliable browser infection, but we do not consider malware yet as we have received no information about it promoting malicious content. Still, since it comes from an unknown source, you should stay away from it as it might jeopardize your computer’s security. Given that this program can replace your browser’s search-related settings to its promoted Yahoo search engine, promote shady links, and collect information about you, we recommend that you remove it from your browser as soon as you can. You can use the removal guide provided below. We also recommend that you scan your PC with an anti-malware program to ensure your computer is malware free.
