Packed.PolyCrypt.d is a generic class of Trojan Horses that is specifically designed to generate “traffic” to certain Web sites. The traffic generated is artificial! Packed.PolyCrypt.d will send HTTP requests to simulate clicks on banner advertisements, as well as to inflate Web counter statistics. Systems affected by this Trojan application include: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, and Windows XP. As with all Trojan applications, Packed.PolyCrypt.d is installed under deceptive pretences, infiltrating the user’s PC without their approval or knowledge. The fact that Packed.PolyCrypt.d can easily enter any PC system via security exploits and flaws, most times without the user’s interaction, means that it is that much easier for Packed.PolyCrypt.d to enter the system and ensure the system’s security is immensely compromised. Furthermore, the security risks posed by Packed.PolyCrypt.d may also include the collection and transmission of personally identifiable information (PII) without the user’s consent thus severely degrading the performance and stability of the computer. As like most malware applications, Packed.PolyCrypt.d is a dubious program that spreads itself without any user intervention. Packed.PolyCrypt.d can self-replicate, and tends to spread without attaching to or infecting other programs and files. The best way to deal with the threat of Packed.PolyCrypt.d is to simply remove it from the affected PC system.
