Search.searchcounn.com

Was your homepage replaced with Search.searchcounn.com without your permission? Are you sure that your browser was corrupted illegally? If you are, what are you waiting for? You need to delete the hijacker and scan your operating system for concealed threats immediately. If you have initiated the changes yourself, you might think that the suspicious search tool is harmless, but that is not the case. Do you feel as if you were forced into changing the homepage URL? In any of these cases, we identify the suspicious search tool as a browser hijacker, and we advise getting rid of it as soon as possible. You might also need to erase the CouponUnity extension that is often seen packaged along with the hijacker. In fact, it is highly unlikely that the hijacker will be introduced on its own. When it comes to the add-on, it has an official source (get.couponunity.com), and it can be downloaded from the Chrome web store (the ID is mknfldbbfblaeieghifnagjieomlcdeb), but it could be spread by malicious installers as well. If you want to learn how to remove Search.searchcounn.com and the add-on, continue reading.

If you download the suspicious Coupon Unity extension via Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers, you will see a tag indicating that this extension was created by SaferBrowser; however, this name is not introduced to the users of Search.searchcounn.com. This hijacker, allegedly, was created by Polarity Technologies Ltd., and we are already familiar with this name because it is linked to Search.searchipdf.com and Search.searchlrom.com browser hijackers. The removal of these threats is discussed in different reports that you can find on this site. Obviously, the suspicious SaferBrowser and Polarity Technologies Ltd. are interrelated; if not the same company operating under different names. If you look at the interfaces of other search tools that are linked to these companies, you will mostly see similarities. In fact, the differences are only in the content that these search tools represents. Search.searchcounn.com is all about virtual coupons, and it represents easy-access links to couponsimplified.com (Printable Coupons and Latest Coupons), retailmenot.com (Coupons), couponbox.com (Coupon Codes), and groupon.com (Local Coupons). Be very cautious if you use these services.

According to our malware researchers, Search.searchcounn.com can be regarded as an advertising tool. After all, the easy-access links it displays represent third-party sites, and you can even see banner ads on the home page. Moreover, even the search engine can be employed to deliver ads. As you might have found out already, Search.searchcounn.com redirects search queries to Yahoo Search. Do not be fooled. Although the results page looks familiar, the results could be modified. Some links could be taken from the original Yahoo search engine, but others could be injected by the hijacker. Of course, you can expect to see coupons, but more misleading links could be added as well. Due to this, we do not advise browsing the web via the provided search engine. In fact, you could invite more threats, and you could jeopardize your security by doing that. If that was not enough, it appears that the hijacker uses tracking cookies that could leak personal information, and that could be extremely dangerous. Needless to say, the only thing we can advise is removing the hijacker from the infected browsers.

What are you going to do? Are you going to delete Search.searchcounn.com from your browsers? If you are, we suggest employing a malware scanner to inspect your operating system first. This is important to do because there is a possibility that other threats are active; especially if the hijacker has slithered in via a software bundle. If other threats are not detected, you can probably get away with manual removal. Our guide shows how to erase the unwanted add-on (Internet Explorer users will uninstall an app) and change homepage settings. If additional threats are discovered, it is best to leave the removal of existing malware to reliable anti-malware software.
