Erdey.exe

As our researchers indicate the suspicious file called Erdey.exe might travel with threats categorized as browser hijackers. To be more precise, it could appear after downloading and installing a browser hijacker from the ELEX family. Therefore, if you noticed this executable file on your computer, it is most advisable to check the system for other possible threats carefully. The file itself could be responsible for such software’s updates or upgrades. Also, the executable might show users third-party advertisements from unreliable sources while surfing the Internet. Thus, if you do not want it to keep updating unreliable software or show doubtful ads, we would advise you to get rid of this file at once. For more information continue reading the text or slide below if you want to see the removal instructions.

We are almost entirely sure that the file should travel with ELEX browser hijackers. Such applications might replace your default browser settings like the search engine, homepage, new tab page, etc. Usually, users download these doubtful programs while clicking suspicious pop-ups ads or from bundled software installers; so the appearance of Erdey.exe means you should be more careful or even take extra steps to keep your system protected and clean from such suspicious applications.

Before you click the download button or agree to install any extension or other application, it is necessary to check if it was created by a reputable developer. Another good idea would be to read some reviews on the Internet. Otherwise, you might end up with numerous browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs, adware applications, and other threats on the system. In most cases these programs do nothing else besides gathering information about the user, showing him unreliable advertisements, redirecting to suspicious web pages, etc.

Naturally, if you have this kind of software on the computer, it would be best to get rid of it. You can do it manually if you know the installation location or erase it automatically with a reputable antimalware tool. As for Erdey.exe, our researchers discovered that it enters the system by placing itself in the %PROGRAMFILES% and %PROGRAMFILES(x86)% directories. Additionally, the threat might create subfolders with titles from random letters, for example, kaqaculttaisp. Nonetheless, these subfolders should contain only Erdey.exe.

As the executable file is running in the background, it might download various upgrades and updates to the browser hijackers that could be already installed on the computer. To make matters worse, Erdey.exe might be responsible for the appearance of suspicious advertisements on your browser. For example, it could show third-party pop-ups, banners, sponsored links, and so on. Some of these ads could be signed by Erdey.exe too, so it should not be too difficult to identify them. The main danger with these ads is that they can redirect you to unreliable web pages, for example, websites distributing malicious applications or similar threats, sites gathering your sensitive information without permission, and so on. Needless to say that if on top of the risk these advertisements also annoy you, there is nothing else left to do but to delete the suspicious file.

If you want to remove Erdey.exe manually, you should follow the instructions below as they will guide you through the process. However, we should not forget that there might be more threats on the system. As we mentioned before most likely, it could be browser hijackers from the ELEX family and to secure the system, they should be erased as well. Clearly, searching for other threats on your own might be too difficult, especially for less experienced users. Thus, we would advise users to use a trustworthy antimalware tool instead. It could eliminate not only the executable file but also other suspicious software. Plus, if you keep it updated, the tool could help you protect the system in the future.
