Picasti Extension

Picasti Extension is an unreliable Google Chrome browser extension that may show up on your system under questionable conditions. As a matter of fact, its official channel, the Chrome web store has already blocked and removed this extension, which obviously indicates that there are certain reliability issues with this tool. We have labeled this browser extension as a potentially unwanted program, or PUP in short, even though it is also possible that it exhibits advertising-supported traits as well. If you are a security-minded computer user, this PUP would be totally useless to you even if it actually worked. However, we have found that this extension has stopped functioning, too. If you want to keep your system healthy and protected, we suggest that you remove Picasti Extension as soon as possible.

Our research shows that there is no official website that promotes this risky browser extension. In fact, even the only official source, the Chrome web store has blocked it. Formerly, this PUP was available at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picasti/mhgcdjhdeoinadoehjnbfnddbeniklkf, but now there is only an error page that greets you there. But it is still possible that previously you installed this extension through this channel. We would like to point out that all Chrome extensions have a unique ID, in this case, “mhgcdjhdeoinadoehjnbfnddbeniklkf,” which you can find at the end of the URL or in the Extensions settings of your Google Chrome browser if you tick the “Developer mode” checkbox at the top. It is quite useful to always run a web search on this ID because you may find out the true face of a tool. Although we are talking about a no longer working browser extension, you may still find a few articles on how to delete Picasti Extension from your browser. This should help you decide whether an application is reliable or not.

Another thing you should always consider is the rights you give to an extension when you install it. There is always a pop-up window that tells you about these rights. In this case, you would see “Read and change all your data on the websites you visit.” Do you think it is reasonable to give such rights to an unreliable tool? Please, always make sure you are aware of the permissions you are about to give to programs on your system. As a matter of fact, it is not even too likely that you installed this PUP in this way because there is a way more questionable channel through which it can be distributed: freeware bundles.

You may download and install this annoying PUP via malicious software packages that can enter your system after you click on corrupt third-party advertisements. This is one of the reasons why you should make sure that there are no malware infections on your system at all, because even one single adware program can generate such ads. Another way for you to be introduced to harmful third-party ads is to visit suspicious torrent and freeware websites. All in all, if your system is infected with this PUP, you should inspect your computer with a reliable malware scanner right after you delete Picasti Extension.

This questionable Chrome browser extension used to promote itself as a tool that "shows funny pictures of Picaso in modern style" whatever this really means, not to mention the spelling mistake in Picasso’s name. To be quite frank, it does not even matter anymore what kind of function this PUP ever offered because it seems to have stopped working recently. However, our tests show that it is possible that this tool might also be used to display third-party ads through your browser. While many users are not aware of the potential risks such ads may hold, we must tell you that clicking on unreliable ads that could come from this PUP would put your virtual security at risk. You might end up on malicious websites or drop further infections onto your system. Hopefully, you are convinced now to know what to do with this extension. We advise you to remove Picasti Extension if you want to do something good for a more secure system.

Fortunately, it is not at all difficult to put an end to this useless PUP. You simply need to locate the extension in your Google Chrome browser settings and remove it. Since there is a chance that you have not done this before, we have included easy-to-follow instructions below. You can delete Picasti Extension from your browser in a minute even if you are not an experienced computer user. Since this could be the least dangerous threat on your system, we suggest that you go on detecting other questionable and malicious programs until your computer is totally clean. If you do not want to do this manually and would like to have proper defense against all kinds of malware attacks, we recommend that you install a trustworthy application, such as SpyHunter. But do not forget about the importance of keeping all your programs and drivers updated from official sources either.
