Mysearchengine.ru

Mysearchengine.ru is not a search engine you should trust. Although it uses Google Custom Search engine to showcase the results corresponding to your search queries, you are mistaken if you think that these results are trustworthy. Strangely enough, this search tool is now spreading in the United Kingdom and Greece, despite the fact that it clearly has the Russian top-level domain, and it must have been created for the Russian market. After looking closer at this strange search provider, we have come to a conclusion that it must be deleted immediately. There is not a single feature of this search tool that we can trust, and that is why your virtual security might be in danger every time you use it. Some say that it is unfair to identify this search provider as harmful because there is not much information about it. Well, that is exactly why we cannot trust it in the first place! If you still do not know why you must delete Mysearchengine.ru, read this report, and the things should clear up.

As it was recently discovered, Mysearchengine.ru shares a server with expressdoctavka.ru, ganesha-film.ru, multicooker24.ru, f-expert.ru, and a ton of other websites, most of which showcase promotional content. The intentions of this server’s administrator are unknown, but it is possible that they have created a server that can be used by the owners of unreliable websites. Obviously, you should be cautious if you choose to visit the websites hosted on the same server as the unreliable search provider. That is not the only reason to look at third-party content. It is very possible that third-party malware exists on your own operating system right now. Because the browser hijacker – which is what we identify Mysearchengine.ru as – is usually spread via software bundles, the chances are that other infections or undesirable programs could be infiltrated along with it. It is most likely that potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) and adware will slither in along with the hijacker, but you should look out for Trojans, rogues, and other serious threats. The worst part is that some malicious infection can slither in and run silently, which might make it difficult to find and remove them. Run a malware scanner to check if malware has not hidden itself on your PC.

What can you say about the interface of Mysearchengine.ru? Is it trust-inducing? The “Search” logo uses the colors of the Google logo, which might put some users at ease. Also, we see the Google’s name in the search dialog box, but, as we have mentioned already, the search results cannot be trusted. That is because they could be modified to include the links promoting third-party content unrelated to your search queries. Sure, it might be annoying to see links that have nothing to do with your search requests, but what is more unnerving is that these sponsored links could also route to malicious websites. In reality, we know nothing about the affiliates of Mysearchengine.ru because we are not provided with this information. In fact, we are not provided with any information at all. If you have analyzed the interface of this browser hijacker, you must have noticed that it does not provide links to legal statements (e.g., a Privacy Policy). Is this excusable? It certainly is not because such information is the backbone to any software, and the fact that this information does not exist means that you cannot trust the software at any point.

According to our malware researchers, you should not postpone the removal of Mysearchengine.ru. Luckily, it is not all that difficult to erase this browser hijacker from your browsers. All you need to do is change the homepage (see the guide below). Of course, in case this hijacker was introduced to you via extensions, you need to remove them first. Also, our research team warns that the homepage hijacking might stem from the Target modifications. Right-click the shortcut of the infected browser, click Properties, then click the Shortcut tab, and check if the Target is right. If it includes the URL of the hijacker, delete it, and then click OK. This should do the trick. Of course, we also recommend using anti-malware software, and not only for the elimination of existing malware, but also the protection of your operating system hereafter.
