Search.classifiedlist.net

If you think that Search.classifiedlist.net is a reliable and safe-to-use search engine, then we invite you to read this description as it features the most relevant information about it. You should consider removing it from your PC entirely because it will not improve your browsing in any shape or form. Moreover, this browser hijacker may collect some information about you and use it for advertising and marketing purposes. Indeed, its primary objective is to show you promotional links in its search results to generate income. Unfortunately, the promoted links may even redirect you to infected websites that feature malicious content.

Our research has revealed that Search.classifiedlist.net is nearly the same as Search.realcoolmoviessearch.com, Search.searchinsocial.com, and Search.emaildefendsearch.com. All of them, including this new hijacker, come from a browser hijacker family known as SaferBrowser. Search.classifiedlist.net and its counterparts feature the “by SaferBrowser” label which is indicative of the fact that all of them come from the same source. Now, there is no legitimate company to which these hijackers can be linked to, but it is clear as day that they come from an unreliable and untrustworthy source.

While gathering information about Search.classifiedlist.net, we found that it is distributed with an accompanying browser add-on that is called Classified on Mozilla Firefox and Classified List on Google Chrome. We have also concluded that this extension does not have a dedicated distribution website. Therefore, it is more than likely that it is distributed via bundled software installers that can hide its presence and install it secretly. Nevertheless, some installers might not even allow you to deselect its installation. As a result, this extension can replace your browser’s homepage without your knowledge or consent.

Testing has shown that Search.classifiedlist.net’s accompanying browser add-on is configured to replace the homepage address only. However, in some instances, it might replace the new tab page of Chrome in particular. As mentioned, the purpose for doing so is to force you to view promotional links in its search results. However, we must note that it does not have its own search algorithm. Instead, this hijacker redirects all search queries to a customized Yahoo search engine that featured altered search results that accommodate additional promotional links that generate revenue for this hijacker’s developers and their advertising partners. However, we want to warn you that the promoted links can redirect you to unknown and possibly even dangerous websites that can compromise your computer and your privacy by infecting your PC with spyware, ransomware, fake anti-virus applications, and so on.

Furthermore, like all browser hijackers, Search.classifiedlist.net is designed to collect certain information about you to make its owners more money. According to its Privacy Policy, this fake search engine is set to collect information that includes but is not limited to your PC’s operating system, web browser, IP address, as well as your Internet Service Provider name, your approximate location, visited websites, entered search queries, and so on. This and some other information is collected using various information collection technologies that include browser cookies, web beacons, and pixels, among others. The collected information is stored and used to customize the promotional campaign and tailor links for unique users. All of this is done in the name of maximizing profit.

In closing, Search.classifiedlist.net is a highly unreliable search engine that we have classified as a browser hijacker due to its malicious distribution method. Apart from that, its search results feature shady promotional links that can redirect to unreliable and even malicious websites. The promotional links are also tailored for each unique user because it collects information about the users and it helps in tailoring the ads. If you want to keep your computer out of harm’s way, please remove this hijacker.
