- Hijacks homepage
- Can't be uninstalled via Control Panel
SaferBrowser is at it again and its newest release, Search.emailfaster.co, is sure to subject you to commercial advertisements of unreliable origin. Apart from that, you should remove it because it is set to replace the homepage and new tab page of your web browser and, thus, force you to use it for conducting online searches. SaferBrowser utilizes both legitimate and illegitimate distribution methods to get this hijacker on your computer, and you should get rid of it regardless of whether you installed intentionally or not. Search.emailfaster.co is a potential security threat and the longer you keep it, the higher the chance of your PC becoming infected with additional malware.
Since this hijacker belongs to the SaferBrowser browser hijacker family, it comes with a dedicated browser extension. This extension is compatible with all three most popular web browsers that include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. The extension goes under a different name on each browser. For Internet Explorer, it is called EmailFaster. Take note that this extension is not shown in Internet Explorer’s list of extensions, and you can only see it in Control Panel. On Chrome, it is named EmailFaster and on Firefox it is simply named Email.
This browser extension is instrumental in hijacking your browser and is an integral part of Search.emailfaster.co because they work hand in hand to collect information about you and your computer. So once on your PC, this browser extension will modify the browser settings and set Search.emailfaster.co as the homepage address of the above-mentioned browser, as well as Chrome’s new tab page and Firefox’s search provider. In truth, you can use it as a regular search engine and if it happens to work rather well, but this is only thanks to Yahoo.com to which all of the search queries are redirected. Nevertheless, Search.emailfaster.co is set to leave its mark in the form of additional promotional links that are inserted at the bottom of the results. We are concerned that the promotional links may come from unreliable advertisers that may promote scam and phishing websites and malware downloads.
Both this browser hijacker and its accompanying extension are used to collect information about you and your browsing habits to personalize the advertising campaign and generate more advertising income. The search results may present region-specific advertisements and to do that, the hijacker has to obtain your IP address that is tied to your geographical location. Furthermore, it may gather and store entered URLs and search queries. Also, it might collect information referring to the browser type and OS that use.
Search.emailfaster.co has not been classified as a browser hijacker for nothing. Our research has shown that one of the ways SaferBrowser distributes it involves promoting the browser extension via adware-type software. The adware renders pop-up advertisements that, once clicked, initiate the download of EmailFaster and it replaces the search related settings to Search.emailfaster.co without your knowledge or approval. This distribution method is considered malicious because the developers resort to deception so that you would accept the installation of the seemingly legitimate browser extension. Apart from this distribution method, it is also featured on http://emailfaster.co/Email?. When you download the extension from this site, it warns you that it will modify the said search-related settings.
Regardless of how you got this hijacker on your PC, we do not recommend that you keep it because of the shady promotional campaign that can get your computer’s security jeopardized. If you use Internet Explorer, then you have to uninstall EmailFaster from Control Panel, but if you got it for Chrome or Firefox, then you have to remove the browser extension from their respective extension lists. See the guide below for more information. In closing, you should scan your PC for adware because it is one of the channels Search.emailfaster.co is disseminated.
