USB Locker

USB Locker is a potentially unwanted program that will pop up into action when you expect it the least. It is not a malicious infection, but it does not mean that it enters your computer because you want it. Such programs often get installed by chance, when users download freeware from third-party sources. We would strongly suggest removing USB Locker from your computer because the application may exhibit particular features that might be disturbing. Also, this program raises specific security concerns that should not be overlooked, too. Thus, you should take every single issue seriously, and solve it without any further ado.

Before you say anything, we completely understand that you may not have noticed how the app entered your computer. However, that does not mean your system was infected. An infection does not require a lot of input from a user to settle down on a target computer. USB Locker, on the other hand, is completely different. It needs you to go through the usual software installation process; otherwise, it will not be set up on your PC. It is possible to overlook this application, especially if it comes bundled with other software.

For example, you need a file converter application, and you look for it online. The first result link redirects you to some freeware sharing site where you can find a lot of applications, including the one you need. Clicking the download link initiates the download process (obviously), and then you can install the program. However, when you install programs that are distributed via third-party installers, you need to read each and every step in the installation wizard carefully. For instance, the installer may offer you the Express install function, where it just breezes through various options without letting you choose anything and keeping all the default settings. However, if possible, please select the Custom installation, and check what additional programs that come with the installer you downloaded. The chances are USB Locker came in one of these installers, and you simply missed the steps that offered you to deselect it.

As far as the program’s functions are concerned, the application has a rather narrow service range. The interface comes with two simple sections: Access Mode and Registry Mode. With the Access Mode, you can choose the level of access any user has to your flash drive when it is plugged into your computer. Depending on your preferences, you can set it to Read and Write, Read Online, and Disable. Also, with the application, you can disable the Registry Editor. It says that “disabling registry editor (Regedit) will prevent users to change USB storage policy from the registry. Although it sounds like a pretty decent function at the first glance, we certainly do not recommend meddling with the Registry Editor.

Registry Editor is a very important system utility that allows users to modify the Windows Registry. In its own right, the Windows Registry is a database that stores Windows settings and all the applications you have on your computer. If you make a wrong modification, you could easily blue-screen your computer because Registry Editor does not have the undo function. Likewise, you can never know what modifications USB Locker could perform on the Windows Registry, so it would be for the best to not risk that.

Also, there is another aspect of this potentially unwanted program (PUP) that bothers us. USB Locker can connect to a remote server over the Internet. Normally, programs do that to download updates, but this application could also download other software onto your PC. There is no guarantee that this software would be safe. To put it simply, USB Locker puts your computer at risk, and it could easily expose you to potential threats.

All of this could be prevented if you uninstall USB Locker today. Manual removal via Control Panel should do the job, but after that, you should still scan your PC with the SpyHunter free scanner. After all, this program must have entered your system with a list of other unwanted application, so you have to terminate them all.

Should you encounter any difficulties while trying to protect your PC from harm, you can always ask for assistance by leaving a comment below this description. We are always open for your feedback.
