SOSO DESK

You may be given the impression that SOSO DESK is a useful tool for finding files on your computer, but the fact of the matter is that it is actually a potentially unwanted program that you should remove because it is useless and prone to secretly installing malicious software. Indeed, it is entirely possible that it will install additional software without your consent. We know this because it was developed by a company whose other releases did just that. So if you want to keep your computer out of harm’s way, then you have to get rid of it. However, before you do that, you might find it useful reading this description that features everything you need to know about this program.

SOSO DESK’s website provides us with three core features that this program is supposed to give you. The first one is meant to offer you device management, the second should let you find anything you want, and the third should enable you to find anything you want on your device or the web. These are truly groundbreaking features, are they not? Our position is clear, this application offers nothing of real value because it interacts with Windows and uses its built-in search feature to find the files and do everything else it claims to do. This is one of the reasons we have categorized it as a potentially unwanted program. Now SOSO DESK has some customizability built into it which we will overview next.

You can have this application launch on system startup up and move it around on the desktop. If it gets in your way, you can hold down Alt+S keys, and this program will work in the background. Furthermore, it allows you to choose in which locations it should search for your files, and you can also select or deselect particular file formats. This is not a bad feature, but it is nothing compared to the shady features that its developers do not want you to know about.

SOSO DESK comes with a search engine called Search.sosodesktop.com, but we have classified as a browser hijacker due to its deceptive distribution methods, and the fact that is can show promotional links in its search results that may be of unreliable nature or even outright malicious. When you install SOSO DESK, it offers you to set Search.sosodesktop.com as Chrome’s Homepage address and search provider. However, you cannot start installing the application until you have checked the checkboxes for inserting the malicious search engine. So they are an inseparable pair which only makes this program more unwanted. However, the main reason we have classified it as a potentially unwanted program is the fact that it can secretly download and install malware on your PC. This malware can be anything, but we have received reports that it favors ELEX-made browser hijackers.

We want to inform you that SOSO DESK comes from a secretive and unreliable malware developer responsible for releasing potentially unwanted applications such as Picexa, Guntony, Uncheckit, and FVP Image Viewer as well as browser hijackers that include Safepage.easyfiletool.com and Mystart.dealwifi.com. The company behind this malware uses several aliases such as Rafo Technology Inc, Bysenda Technology Limited, and Taiwan Shui Mu Chih Ching Technology Limited, among others. Clearly, the people behind this company do not want to be discovered, but they want to give their software and search engines a legitimate appearance, so they make up names like the ones mentioned above. Judging from the names, the developers are based somewhere in the Asia-Pacific region. Nevertheless, that makes little significance, so let us discuss how SOSO DESK is distributed instead.

This program is featured on a dedicated distribution website at Sosodesktop.com. This website’s IP is 104.25.98.11 which also hosts several of the distribution websites of the elusive company’s programs. These sites include Dealwifi.com, Ozipcompression.com. Furthermore, this same IP hosts browser hijackers that include Dozensearch.com, Iminentsearch.com, Nicesearches.com, and so on. At any rate, apart from the dedicated distribution websites, this program does not appear to be featured on any software bundles or freeware hosting websites, so you will not get it unless you deliberately install it.

As you can see, SOSO DESK is bad news and the sooner you get rid of it, the better. The fact that it is even capable of secretly installing browser hijackers or other malware is unacceptable. Also, it comes with browser hijacker by default, and this hijacker is capable of showing modified and, thus, unreliable search results. So the sooner you remove this application, the better.
