Search.funsafetabsearch.com

Search.funsafetabsearch.com is a questionable addition to your browsers that can show up after a browser hijacker sneaks onto your system and changes certain browser settings. It is possible that you do not even recall letting these changes take place because it is easy to overlook the designated checkboxes while installing this extension via software bundles. We have found that this browser hijacker is simply a newcomer in a family that includes identical clones, such as Search.yourmediatabsearch.com and Search.newtabtvgamasearch.com. You may think that it is totally fine to keep such a search page in your browsers and that it is all harmless; but we beg to differ. Unfortunately, no matter how innocent this hijacker looks, there is a chance that it presents you with potentially unreliable third-party content. Engaging with such content could end very badly for you; therefore, we suggest that you remove Search.funsafetabsearch.com from your browsers. For the details, please read our full article.

This browser extension seems to affect only Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. If you visit its official promotional webpage at funsafetab.com with Internet Explorer, you will only see a notification that this product is not supported by your browser. This official page is rather simple and tries to sell this useless application as a useful tool for bigger safety on the net. By clicking on the “Install Extension” or the “Start Download” buttons you get redirected to the Chrome web store page of this tool, chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/funsafetab/ojcneibidakkhnpdkoimliahgcmpbgpb. From this page you can see that over 14 thousand users have installed this application, yet none have left any comments. This is a bit suspicious, but it gets worse.

The creators of this browser hijacker use a questionable method to distribute their product: free software bundling. This means that when you install this infection, it is possible that you also let other malware threats on board. Such a malicious bundle can contain adware programs, hijackers, and potentially unwanted programs among others. It is easier to infect your computer with such a package than you would think. One click on an unsafe third-party pop-up advertisement and your system could get more vulnerable than ever before. You can be exposed to such ads if you have an adware application or a browser hijacker on your system. This is why you always need to make sure that no infections are present on your computer. Another possibility is that you land on shady file-sharing or gaming websites, which tend to host several suspicious third-party ads. Keep in mind that these ads can be very misleading and pose as buttons or system notifications as well. If you are not sure about the malware situation on your PC, you should avoid clicking on any advertisements and also, run a malware scanner on your system after you remove Search.funsafetabsearch.com.

Our research shows that this browser hijacker is mainly popular and spreading in these countries: Gambia 19.2%, France 16.5%, Singapore 8.8%, and Vietnam 7.6%. This tool promotes itself as an “easy access to security tools and useful links”; however, we must tell you that you are definitely not secure if you have this application in your browsers. You are provided with a fake toolbar that has a number of quick links to supposed PC security websites and social networking pages. We have found that these security-related links mainly lead to potentially unwanted programs’ promotional pages, including reimageplus.com/land/sqh/index.php?tracking=imali-xt&banner=sfaeside&adgroup=direct&ads_name=direct&keyword=direct. If you do not want more questionable applications on your computer, you should not engage with these buttons.

The same goes for the search tool. Actually, it is even riskier to use this tool as it redirects your queries first to another questionable search engine called Search.safefinder.com and then, almost instantly to a modified Yahoo search results page. By “modified” we mean that this hijacker can manipulate the results to include affiliated third-party ads and links. This is what cyber criminals can take advantage of and display potentially dangerous content through this tool. We recommend that you delete Search.funsafetabsearch.com right now if you do not want to face more threats in the future.

The best way to get rid of this infection is to delete the browser extensions from the two affected browsers. We have prepared a guide for you if you are not familiar with changing browser settings. All this should take just a minute or two. However, you should not forget about the rest of the infections that may be hiding on your computer. If you are not ready to go after them manually, we advise you to use a professional malware removal tool, such as SpyHunter. But you can search the web for any other anti-malware software that suits you; just make sure you download a reliable one.
