Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

SearchandStreamTV

SearchandStreamTV is the kind of browser extension that you should not have installed if you want to keep your PC clean. Although this application does not harm your computer directly, we have found that it is quite unreliable and it also installs a questionable search page as your home page, new tab page, and default search engine as well. We have categorized this application as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) due to our findings after careful research. This extension only seems to work in Google Chrome. However, since this PUP might enter your PC in a software bundle, it is possible that it brings a couple of malware infections on board, too. In this case, obviously, this extension will be the least of your problems. All in all, we believe that you should remove SearchandStreamTV if you want to make sure that your computer remains in good condition and secure.

There are at least three ways for you to let this questionable browser extension onto your system. The official ones include the promotional webpage at searchandstreamtv.com and the Chrome web store (chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/searchandstreamtv/flejlocnpblendpdeepkkgmpninkklbk). The official page is really simple and practically consists of one main page only. This PUP claims to enable you to “discover where to find your favorite movies and TV shows.” You can directly install it under your browser if you click on the “Add to Chrome” button. We recommend that you read the pop-up carefully that shows up. This states the rights you are about to grant to this tool, including “read and change all your data on the websites you visit, communicate with cooperating websites, and change your search settings to search.searchandstreamtv.com.” Most users tend to overlook these very important points and quickly push the “Add extension” button.

There is a suspicious thing about SearchandStreamTV, though. When you check it out in the web store, you can see that almost 16 thousand users have installed it, yet none of them rated it or left a review. When you are in doubt, you should always run a web search on your targeted tool or software. In this case, it is enough to use the unique Chrome ID, which can be retrieved from the end of the URL: flejlocnpblendpdeepkkgmpninkklbk. This search should be quite useful since at least two articles out of five will be about how to remove SearchandStreamTV. This should give you an idea about the reliability of the extension you want to install.

Finally, it is possible that you find this application spreading in freeware bundles. Obviously, this is the worst that can happen to you, i.e., that you download a malicious software package. The reason is that this bundle may be packed with PUPs and malware infections, including adware programs, browser hijackers, and Trojans. These threats can cause a lot of headaches for you starting with the flow of annoying and potentially unsafe third-party ads while you are trying to surf the web. The main risk is naturally the exposure to unreliable third-party content and websites; in other words: cyber criminals. For example, landing on malicious sites run by crooks can end with your downloading more infections onto your computer or your being scammed out of your money, banking and personal details. This is why it is so important that you run a reliable malware scanner right after you delete SearchandStreamTV. Leaving any risky application on board would be a mistake if you are a security-minded person.

Once this PUP is activated, it sets its potentially unreliable search engine (home.searchandstreamtv.com) as your new home page, new tab page, and default search provider in Google Chrome. Having such a search engine in your browser can expose you to harmful third-party content through possibly modified search results. This means that if you do a web search in your Chrome browser, you may end up on unreliable search results pages. This search engine uses a redirection to reputable third-party engines, such as Yahoo and Bing, which can be quite misleading and you may think it is safe to click on ads and links. This is how you might end up on malicious websites. Since SearchandStreamTV promotes such a risk, we believe that it makes it quite unreliable; not to mention the fact, that this is a totally useless tool.

First of all, you are required to register if you want to use it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misuse of such data on the web and you should be very careful where and for whom you provide it. Another thing about this PUP is that while you can actually reach the Hulu and Amazon movie stream sites through it, it does not do anything special or useful. You may as well just visit these sites because you need to pay for the streams anyway. As far as we are concerned, you should delete SearchandStreamTV from your browser.

The only good thing we have found about this PUP is that it can be easily removed via browser settings. Please follow our instructions below if you have no idea how to do that. Since this infection may only be the tip of the iceberg, it is possible that there are malware threats as well around. You can try to identify them through the list of installed programs in Control Panel and the list of extensions in your browser. However, the best way to make sure that your PC is all healthy and clean is to install a reliable anti-malware application that can automatically protect it for all kinds of malware attacks.
