TrumpKard

TrumpKard is supposed to be an ad blocker browser extension for Google Chrome; however, we have found that this application is somewhat questionable. Therefore, we have classified it as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) since we cannot claim that it is a major threat to your system. But at the same time we cannot say that it will not pose an indirect threat either. As a matter of fact, it seems that this PUP is not fully functional yet and there may be some undesirable surprises in the near future. This means that this extension may actually present you with potentially unsafe third-party web content. It is also quite likely that if you find this PUP on your computer, you will find a couple of malware infections as well. This could mean multiple security threats. This is why we believe that you should delete TrumpKard and take care of all the other potentially harmful programs, too.

There are a number of channels through which this PUP can sneak onto your system. Let us see the official ones first. You can find two main promotional sites at trumpkardapp.com and silencethecrazy.com; although, the latter one does not seem to function right now. The former one is a pretty simple webpage that makes it a bit more obvious that this extension may have some “hidden” political agenda. The name of this application is not a coincidence. You can actually see a short promotional video that clearly labels Donald Trump as “crazy” and you can “silence” him, i.e., the related web content and the like (celebrities, etc.) with the help of this browser extension. This is what this page promotes: “silence the noise, silence the celebrities, silence the crazy.” You can download the executable installer file from this page even though the button says “Install.” The intention of this application is quite questionable after a short trip on this webpage. For us, it would be enough to want to remove TrumpKard right away.

Another official place is the Chrome web store: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/trumpkard/jmmllopfifblcdndhiodhfppaooehjml. This is what we learn about this extension there apart from the fact that only 900 people have installed it: “Secure, customize and personalize your internet experience by blocking the unwanted content that cause the crazy, the noise, and all the stuff you don’t want to see!” One thing is very important to understand about the web store: “All that glitters is not gold.” In other words, just because you find an extension in this store, it does not mean at all that it is reliable or useful. Unless this application gets reported as potentially harmful and Chrome reviews it, you will be able to install it through the store. However, it is possible that in the near future it will get blocked.

Unfortunately, the most likely way for TrumpKard to show up on your computer is through freeware bundles. This is bad news because even if this PUP may not be able to cause too much damage or security issues right now, the malware infections it may be packed with actually could. It is possible to find bundles that contain adware programs, browser hijackers, and potentially unwanted programs as well. Most often these infections can expose you to unreliable web content and also cyber criminals. This is why it is so important to be careful and run a full-system malware scanner after you delete TrumpKard.

Another piece of bad news about this application is that although it offers you capability to block unwanted content, such as advertisements, TrumpKard clearly states in its legal documents that in the near future it may start using cookies to collect information in order to be able to show you customized third-party ads. Since cyber criminals can easily exploit such an extension and embed corrupt links in fake ads, it is possible that you click on content displayed by this PUP and land on malicious websites. This can result in more malicious programs on your computer but you may well be scammed by criminals to reveal your personal or banking details. Visiting infectious website operated by criminals can have a devastating effect on your computer. If you keep this PUP on your system, it is possible that before long you will be exposed to such content and potentials. If you want to make sure that you avoid these unfortunate consequences, we advise you to remove TrumpKard.

We have found that there are two major ways for you to eliminate this potential threat source and these are dependent on the version you have downloaded. The bundled version can be uninstalled via Control Panel while the official ones through the Google Chrome browser extension manager. We have included instructions for both if you want to take matters into your own hands. However, if you would like an effective automated method, we recommend that you install a reliable anti-malware application that will protect your PC from all known malware infections.
