Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

ZX Player

ZX Player is meant to be an application that can help you play videos, listen to music, and even watch YouTube content. Although this program might seem useful, it is not worth your attention. According to our research, this supposedly beneficial media player does not function the way it claims to, and it is likely that this is the reason why its developer is no longer promoting it in an official manner. In the recent past, this potentially unwanted program was officially promoted at framefox.com/#/products; however, at the moment, this page only advertises FrameFox Adblock and FrameFox Shop. As you might know already, these apps are not considered reliable either, and the worst part is that you might have all three of them installed at the same time. Are you trying to remove ZX Player along with other potentially unwanted program from your operating system? If you are, you should keep reading.

Duuqu Group is an Estonia-based company that has created ZX Player and the two other programs mentioned in the first section of this report, FrameFox Adblock and FrameFox Shop. Notably, the Publisher of the PUP is listed as ZXPlater Team, which might have been done to confuse users. Our research has revealed that the suspicious ZX Player can silently download these programs onto your computer without your notice. In the past, all of these programs were supported by a very aggressive Terms of Agreement document that gave the permission to disable programs that were not compatible with this software, as well as modify DNS settings. For example, software similar to FrameFox Adblock was disabled to ensure that it was the only program controlling the ads shown to you. This was necessary because the so-called Framefox software was involved in advertising, and it earned money via “promotional campaigns and advertising.” Needless to say, it is strange that software that is meant to block ads is also capable of showing them. In fact, this is an important reason to delete this software.

Although ZX Player is no longer promoted via framefox.com, it could be spread via software bundles. On top of that, these bundles might be malicious, and you might let the PUP in along with dangerous infections. Considering that this PUP is quite attractive, it is possible that the distributors of malware will use it as a distraction. If you are tricked into focusing on this one program, additional threats might be slipped in seemingly without your notice, and they could do a lot of damage. For example, if advertising-supported software is downloaded along with the PUP, you might be flooded with misleading ads created by unknown parties. If silent Trojans are downloaded, a backdoor for all kinds of malware could be opened up without your acknowledgement, and it could be used to download malware again and again. This is why it is crucial to inspect your operating system, which you can do using a malware scanner. If you are looking for a good, free scanner, click the Download button below.

Removing potentially unwanted programs is not always easy. If you are lucky, it will be enough to delete ZX Player by uninstalling the app via Control Panel using “Add or Remove Programs” or “Uninstall a program” tools. If you want to be sure whether or not you have deleted this PUP successfully, you can always employ a malware scanner. You should run this tool even if you decide to follow the steps below, which show how to erase registry keys and folders associated with the PUP. Needless to say, if other threats are active, manual removal is not your best option. Instead of wasting your time researching different threats and trying to eliminate them – and their removal might be more complicated – we suggest employing an automated malware detection and removal tool. The protection of your operating system is another thing that you need to think about, and, if you install a trustworthy anti-malware tool, this weight will be taken off your shoulders.
