Searchie

When you deal with such programs as Searchie, you do not need to panic or worry because they can be removed from your computer without much difficulty. In fact, some users choose to keep this extension because it looks absolutely harmless. However, computer security experts point out how important it is to avoid unwanted programs that seem to enter your system without your permission. This is the problem with the extension as well. For the most part, it happens to be installed on target browsers accidentally, and whenever that happens, you have to be aware of potential security issues you may encounter because of that.

Luckily, this browser extension works only on the Google Chrome browser, so you do not need to worry about it if you use other popular browsers. Nevertheless, considering that the program often travels in software packages, it would be a good idea to check your other browsers for similar plug-ins as well. What is a software package? That would be a bundle of applications delivered by one installer. Third-party installers often come with such bundles, especially if you download them from file-sharing websites. It should not take long to dawn upon you that downloading programs from third-party sources is not as safe as you would wish it to be.

It is quite often that unreliable developers host their software on such sites, and the installers you download may have a lot more programs than you want. Therefore, to avoid the likes of Searchie, you should be careful when you install freeware applications. Normally, the installation wizard should list all the additional programs you are about to install on your PC, and it should be possible to deselect them. However, quite often users lose this opportunity because they are too gullible and too negligent to read through all the setup steps. As a result, they end up with a lot of unnecessary and potentially harmful tools.

It would be hard to call Searchie a dangerous program because the extension is also available on the Chrome Web Store. In fact, when you open the program’s site at searchie.net, clicking the download button eventually redirects you to the Chrome Web Store, where they offer you to add the extension to your browser. Now, it is clear that you can install the plug-in without anyone coercing you to do so, but at the same time, the question is whether you really need a tool with such functions.

When you add this extension to your browser, it allows you to choose between several search engines. You can set google.com, youtube.com, amazon.com, bing.com, search.yahoo.com, and search.strtpoint.com as your default search engine. What’s more, the extension also changes your new tab settings, by setting search.strpoint.com as your default new tab page. You will also see that h.searchie.net becomes your homepage, so if you were not aware of the oncoming modifications, you may think that your computer has been trespassed by a browser hijacker. Nevertheless, it is this extension that you have to deal with, and, thankfully, it is not too complicated.

You can remove Searchie by editing the extension settings via your browser’s menu. This application does not have an entry in the list of installed programs, so you cannot delete it via Control Panel. However, as mentioned, you should consider scanning your system with the SpyHunter free scanner because you could have been swarmed by many other unwanted apps.

Has your computer been processing things slower than the usual? Do you experience a lot of pop-ups when you browse the Internet? If so, then Searchie may not be your only problem at hand. It would not be surprising if you had multiple applications and programs working behind your back, trying to redirect you to unfamiliar websites for monetary purposes.
