CaptureItPlus

You might put yourself at risk by downloading CaptureItPlus. Although this program is not a malicious threat, it was found that it could be used to infiltrate malware. Once installed, this potentially unwanted program can silently download a fake McAfee version and start showing you fake security warnings just to convince you that you need to call a provided number. This number supposedly represents reputable technicians, but we can assure you that it does not. The problem here is that CaptureItPlus is a legitimate program, and its developer is unlikely to be associated with the malicious activity conveyed by it. According to our researchers, because it is an open-source program, it could be hijacked by someone else, and this is when it could be used to slip in other infections. Please continue reading to learn how to remove existing computer infections and protect yourself from them in the future.

Users can download CaptureItPlus from captureitplus.codeplex.com. Codeplex.com is an open-source site that was created by Microsoft, and it allows different parties to share projects. Unfortunately, this has created a security loophole that allowed the corruption of a program created to help computer users capture screen images. Soon after you install the program onto your operating system, you will encounter pop-up notifications suggesting that your PC is under attack of different malicious programs. As mentioned previously, these misleading pop-ups might use the logo and name of McAfee to trick you into thinking that they are authentic and reliable. Below is an example of a misleading alert that might come your way. Although the message of this alert is alarming and intimidating, it was designed to convince you to call the number provided. Keep in mind that these fake alerts are likely to keep popping up even if you remove CaptureItPlus.

It is possible that your operating system is infected with dangerous computer infections that require immediate removal; however, they will not be uncovered via pop-ups like this one. Another thing to keep in mind is that programs that you did not install onto your PC yourself cannot be trusted. Even if you recognize the name of the security tool used, it does not mean that you need to trust all information linked to it. Schemers often use the credentials of familiar tools to trick computer users faster. Another red flag is the urging to call some suspicious number. In cases like this one, it is wise to screen the number, which you can do by running it through your preferred search tool. If the number is fictitious, it is most likely that some information about this will be available to you. We are sure that the 1-800-245-2579 number is bogus, and it is almost guaranteed that it is not toll-free. In fact, it is more likely that you will put down a lot of money by calling this number. Moreover, you could be scammed further by the people answering on the other end of the line. For example, if you have called the number and ended up installing other programs, you must delete them ASAP.

Although you can uninstall CaptureItPlus from your operating system, this will not help you with the problem of misleading security notifications. In order to disable them, you will have to delete a few folders containing malicious files, as well as a registry key created to enable pop-ups. We usually do not recommend deleting keys in the Registry Editor if users are inexperienced; however, you might succeed if you follow the steps below cautiously. If you are afraid of making mistakes, and you do not have time to analyze every malicious component, the best thing you can do is to utilize an automated malware removal tool. Of course, you should not rely on this software to delete CaptureItPlus because it is not a malicious threat. Instead, it is a potentially unwanted program that you can easily uninstall using our guide.

N.B. If you want to prevent malicious infections from entering your operating system in the future, you need to implement reliable security software. If you are ready to invest in this software, we suggest installing SpyHunter, a program that can also automatically delete all existing infections.
