Type: Adware
Common infection symptoms:
  • Annoying Pop-up's
  • Shows commercial adverts
  • Connects to the internet without permission

Poposhidu is a useless application that may have been annoying you with third-party advertising while you are browsing the web. As a matter of fact, this program has only one function and that is to display third-party ads that may well be potentially harmful, too. You may think that these ads are simply disrupting and thus may ruin your browsing experience. But we are here to tell you that these banner and pop-up commercial advertisements may also expose you to unsafe third-party web content. What’s more, it is quite likely that this ad-supported program has entered your computer in a freeware bundle, which can easily multiply your virtual security issues in one go. If you are a security-minded computer user, you should remove Poposhidu before it is too late. But let us give you some details about this infection so that you will know what you are up against and how you can protect your PC.

As a matter of fact, we have not found any promotional or official website that hosts a standalone installer of this adware. This is not a unique situation, however suspicious it is, because adware applications mostly spread over the net in bundles. While bundles are originally used for distributing legitimate and useful applications packed together with free software, unfortunately, schemers also tend to use this method to smuggle malicious software installers onto unsuspecting users’ computers. If you download such a package and you are not careful with the installation, you may allow several harmful malware infections onto your system.

The most usual way to get infected with such a malicious bundle is through questionable websites, including pornography-related, torrent, and freeware pages. You may think that you would never visit such sites but let us remind you that it may not always happen knowingly, i.e., in a direct way. It is possible that you are searching the web to find a free movie, a program, or any other file. You should know that there are fake websites created by cyber criminals that pose as pages where you can actually download your targeted file from. However, instead of your desired application, you download an infected bundle. These sites usually display several download options, such as buttons and links as well. Clicking on these may trigger such a download but it is also possible that you find yourself on a new tab page that loads another malicious website. All in all, it is quite easy to end up with such a bundle on your computer if you are not careful enough with you clicks. If you are not sure how this application has sneaked onto your PC, we recommend that you delete Poposhidu and run a full system malware scan to identify every other possible threat as well.

This adware is a totally useless and potentially dangerous application that may fill your computer screen with distracting third-party advertisements. Some may think that closing these ads is a solution to get rid of them, but we must tell you that it is not so. It is essential to understand about third-party ads, including pop-ups, banners, and in-text ads, that they may introduce you to unreliable or downright malicious websites. In fact, nobody can guarantee that the third party behind an ad is a trustworthy one or not. Landing on malicious websites has unfortunate consequences. The least you can be hit with is more malware infections dropping onto your PC. But in a worst case scenario you may also be scammed out of your money by, for example, criminals tricking you into revealing your banking details. Therefore, keeping this adware on your computer could produce some serious system security issues.

If you realize now the dangers this program holds for you and your operating system, it is time to talk about how you can eliminate this threat. Fortunately, this adware has a working uninstaller that you can run in Control Panel. It should not leave leftovers on your system. However, if you are more experienced, you can try to remove Poposhidu manually. Since this involves working with the Windows registry, we need to warn you that only go for this method if you are confident and aware of the risks of making a mistake in the registry. Please follow our instructions below if you need help with the required steps. Keep in mind that there may be other infections on your computer as well, which have to be deleted, too, if you want to feel secure in your virtual world. We recommend that you use a professional malware removal application that will also safeguard your PC from further malware invasions.
