Muzic.io

Muzic.io is a rather popular application which users usually get from the Chrome Web Store. We are sure that Muzic.io is so popular (there are 10 621 Google Chrome users who have already installed the Muzic.io extension and this number is growing) mainly because it promises to enable users to listen to free worldwide online radio stations. We cannot say that this program is not capable of entering systems without permission as well. Either way, it would be smart to eliminate the Muzic.io extension even though this piece of software might really allow you to listen to the music. It will not be very hard to get rid of Muzic.io, but you will definitely not be able to do that via Control Panel. It is because this software does not have an uninstall entry there, and it only adds its extension for the Google Chrome browser.

Muzic.io will create the ibipigkkmpjlklbnjkkkdgihkmejfffe folder in C:\Documents and Settings\user\AppData\Local\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions the moment it is installed on the system. In addition, it will create two files:

  • chrome-extension_ibipigkkmpjlklbnjkkkdgihkmejfffe_0.localstorage
  • chrome-extension_ibipigkkmpjlklbnjkkkdgihkmejfffe_0.localstorage-journal

These files can be located if you follow this path c:\Documents and Settings\user\AppData\Local\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Storage. If you are not a very experienced user, you can check the Add-ons Manager in order to find out whether you have really encountered Muzic.io. Its ID matches the Chrome Web Store ID, which is ibipigkkmpjlklbnjkkkdgihkmejfffe, so we are sure that you will find it easily. Keep in mind that you have to enable the Developer mode first in order to see extensions’ identification numbers.

Even though Muzic.io promises to enable users to listen to the music for free, it is not a 100% trustworthy extension, so you should be very careful with it. In fact, security experts even call it a bad extension. The reason is simple – it might start showing commercial advertisements on a user’s screen. You might start seeing a bunch of different commercial advertisements, including pop-ups, banners, and in-text ads. The majority of users who see ads on their screens believe that another adware program is responsible for their presence; however, Muzic.io might really flood your screen with ads. Information in the Privacy Policy also informs users about that:

Third party websites

Users may find advertising or other content on our Service that link to the sites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties.

If you really start seeing them, please, ignore those ads completely and remove Muzic.io as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it is not enough to promise not to click on ads because you might do that accidentally. The main reason why we do not recommend clicking on those commercials is because we want to protect your PC from malicious software. Research carried out by the specialists at pcthreat.com has shown that ads which Muzic.io displays might have untrustworthy links embedded into them. It means that they might redirect to unreliable web pages. Muzic.io is definitely not responsible for your safety and declares that you use it at your own risk. You should not keep this extension also because it might gather details about you in order to show you those commercials. Nobody knows whether it really collects ONLY non-personally identifiable information as it claims.

Researchers have also managed to find out that Muzic.io is hosted on the same server as Amazing Tab, Baboom.Audio, and Down Checker. Therefore, we are almost sure that it is developed by the same company which owns the aforementioned software. It is very likely that a number of other similar applications exist too. Therefore, you should take care of your system’s safety in advance. Remember, the majority of undesirable applications are distributed in a bundle with other programs (usually freeware and shareware) which can be downloaded from third-party web pages. Therefore, you might install malware together with some kind of program from such a website if you are not careful enough. Luckily, you can protect your system by installing a security tool. Be sure you do that in the nearest future.

Muzic.io can be removed rather easily – users just need to remove its extension from the Chrome Extension Manager. You will not need to erase extensions from other browsers, e.g. Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox because this program affects only Google Chrome. If you feel that you cannot get rid of it yourself, scan your PC with an automatic tool like SpyHunter. All the threats will be 100% gone if you acquire a really trustworthy tool for the removal process.
