Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

MiniBrowser Crawler

MiniBrowser Crawler is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that is the worst of its kind because it virtually crawls onto your computer silently, i.e., without your knowledge. Its presence also signals that there may be malicious programs on-board. Now, that is really bad news, because right away your virtual security becomes much less protected and vulnerable to more attacks. This PUP is a totally useless piece of software that has no function or benefit for you at all. As a matter of fact, this application shows a couple of suspicious traits that should be more than enough for you to make up your mind and remove MiniBrowser Crawler from your PC. But let us tell you more about this uninvited “guest” so that you can make the right decision.

The first doubt rises when you realize that this PUP does not even have an official website; you cannot download it as a standalone file. You cannot get any information about MiniBrowser Crawler, so why or how would you have it at all? We have found that this PUP travels with bundled malicious software installers. That is not a “nice company” to travel with and certainly not healthy for your computer. As a matter of fact, if you install such a bundle, this potentially unwanted program may be the least dangerous threat on your PC. To be honest, PUPs are mostly not dangerous and cannot be considered as direct threats to your operating system. However, MiniBrowser Crawler does not even have a user interface; it operates silently through a service in the background.

When this PUP is installed, it makes changes to your system so that it can automatically start up with Windows. Why would an application do that if it seems not to do anything? Or does it? Well, what we have noticed is pretty worrisome. Once you launch your browser, this application starts to go through all the websites in your browsing history and programmatically clicks on every link, picture, and banner that can be found on those pages. Most probably, this is done in order to gather information about you, including your usernames -- and maybe even your passwords. This kind of behavior is rather suspicious, which is why we recommend that you delete MiniBrowser Crawler as soon as possible.

Hopefully, you can see now that your computer is more secure if you eliminate MiniBrowser Crawler. If you intend to take care of this infection manually, find the application in the list of installed programs in Control Panel. Then, simply uninstall it; it is as simple as that. But, if you want to be more effective and eliminate all the possible threats, we advise you to download and install a powerful antimalware program. An automated security tool can detect and remove all known infections and protect your Windows operating system from future attacks. However, you can also do some protection yourself if you have your own code of safe browsing and stick to it. Avoiding questionable websites and not clicking on third-party ads are two simple rules that can help you keep your computer clean.
