Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

SharPlayer

SharPlayer is yet another online video player that allows users to create playlists using online and offline videos and in general gather all of your content into one application. However, we suggest that you remove this video player. Our research has determined that SharPlayer is a potentially unwanted program, because it can display commercial advertisements and that most of the time it does not even work. This program’s ad campaign immediately gives it away. It claims that SharPlayer is useful, because you need not have to move back and forth between websites, watch online series on the go, and so on. The website features empty and vague statements that tell nothing about this program. SharPlayer has no real purpose, so if you have accidentally installed this program, then you ought to remove it.

If you need proof that this program is unreliable just visit its website at Sharplayer.com. You will see that the website does not provide any information regarding this player’s developer. Sharplayer.com also hosts this program’s installer. However, its website is not its primary means of dissemination. Most users get SharPlayer by inattentively installing an unreliable software bundle that usually contains potentially unwanted programs, adware, and browser hijackers. Such bundles are easy to come by, especially if you are looking to download pirated software. Many piracy websites feature fake download buttons that trigger the download of malicious software bundles. Of course, SharPlayer can also be found on less malicious websites, such as ordinary freeware sharing websites. However, the abundance of distribution methods this program uses does not make it popular.

Its developers have obviously created this program with the intention to make money from online advertising. SharPlayer’s End User License Agreement states that “By accessing the Sites and downloading the Content, you hereby grant us permission to display promotional information, advertisements, and offers for third party products or services (collectively "Advertising").” This agreement also states that the ads can include offers for products and services, links, and so on. But does this program give something in return for the inconvenience of being subjected to advertisements? No, because, at least currently, SharPlayer does not work. It might work in the future, but this is very unlikely. And even if it did work, it does not seem to be a very useful program in the first place. Some of its supposed functions are just ludicrous. This player allows users to choose the playback quality and watch videos in HD, but this is nothing new. Besides having a program to watch videos from YouTube or Vimeo is completely unnecessary, because playing them via a browser is more convenient.

If you have a working version of this program and find is useful, then, by all means, keep it. However, if it does not work and if you do not want to be attacked by third-party advertisements, then you should remove SharPlayer. This player is not an immediate threat, but its promotions must be viewed with suspicion, since it can sponsor other unreliable software. So, if you are ready to remove SharPlayer, then consult the removal instructions below.
