Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

Desktop Dock

There are a lot of applications out there that are supposed to provide additional functions to your browser or make your web browsing process a lot more convenient. Desktop Dock says that it is exactly that kind of program because it provides you with shortcuts to your favorite sites ON your desktop. However, in some cases Desktop Dock could be considered a potentially unwanted program because it may expose you to unreliable search engines and other third-party websites. If you did not intend to install this application on your system, you should remove Desktop Dock right now.

Needless to say, Desktop Dock is not a computer infection. It does not enter your system surreptitiously. In fact, you can easily download the program at desktopdock.net. The website offers you two download options – you can download the ad-supported free version of Desktop Dock, or you can buy the licensed version with no ads. The choice is yours. We are slightly concerned about the ad-supported version of Desktop Dock because when you click any shortcut on the dock, the application may offer you to install docksearch.net as your default search engine. We would like you to reconsider that.

The reason why we think docksearch.net is suspicious is because this website uses a search engine by Findamo. Findamo is a potentially unwanted search engine that has browser hijacker qualities. Even if docksearch.net does not highjack your browser, we can assume that it can collect data on your web browsing habits in order to generate your online profile. Later on, Desktop Dock may display customized advertisements that are related to your most recent searches. The problem is that commercial advertisements are not subject to Desktop Dock’s privacy policy, so you can never know whether they contain safe links or not.

If you want to get rid of the commercial advertisements you should either buy Desktop Dock’s license or remove the application altogether. In case this program came onto your computer bundled with freeware applications, you should scan the PC with a reliable antispyware tool. You may have initiated a bundled download at a third-party file hosting website, but at the same time you probably have no idea what kind of programs were installed on your PC. When you have a list of unwanted applications, you are strongly recommended to remove them all at once.

In the case you installed Desktop Dock onto your computer willingly; you can keep on using this application. However, if you do not know where this program came from, you should open Control Panel and uninstall Desktop Dock right now.
