StartNow Toolbar

StartNow Toolbar is a browser add-on which is available on its now or it can be downloaded alongside other applications. It has been found that there are two toolbars bearing the same name of StartNow. In either case, if you think that you do not need the application because you do not find their functions helpful, you should uninstall it and then reset the settings of your browsers.

Very often people pay no attention to the installation wizards and keep pressing the Next button to install a particular application. If you, for example, have installed VPlay and now see that your home page is changed to startnow.com or search.conduit.com (depending on the toolbar you have installed), you can always fix your browsers.

If you have StartNow Toolbar by Conduit, then your home page is changed to search.conduit.com.  The toolbar contains a Zynga Games button which allows you to select such games as FarmVillle, FishVille, MafiaWars and others. When using the search engine, you are provided with advertising pages, some of which might be corrupted to infect you with computer viruses.

In case you have StartNow Toolbar published by Zugo Ltd, only two browsers, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, will be affected. The toolbar is also available at about.startnow.com and its installation wizard offers you to install StartNow Toolbar bowered by Yahoo. Once you agree with the terms and conditions, the new toolbar is installed.

As a result, your search engine is changed to Yahoo, and the toolbar provides you with buttons that enable you to access Amazon, Ebay, Facebook and the online games website miniclip.com.

According to the terms and conditions of this StartNow Toolbar, third parties may redirect you to advertising websites or display offers in various forms. Zugo disclaims responsibility for the content of the third-party websites, which means that you will not be able to blame anyone if your computer gets infected while using the product or services provided by Zugo.

It does not matter which StartNow toolbar you have – in either case we recommend you remove the toolbar so as not to be flooded with various advertisements or directed to insecure websites.

The instructions below will help you remove StartNow Toolbar from the system and restore the settings of the browsers. Note that in case of Zugo’s toolbar, only Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are modified.

StartNow Toolbar Removal

Windows Vista/7

1. Open the Start menu and select Control Panel.
2. Click on Uninstall a program under Programs or Programs and Features.
3. Double-click on StartNow Toolbar to remove it.

Windows XP

1. Open the Start menu and select Control Panel.
2. Select Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click on StartNow toolbar and select the Remove button.

Windows 8

1. Hover the mouse over the bottom left corner of the screen until a minimized version of the Metro UI or desktop appear.
2. Right-click on it and select Control Panel.
3. Right-click StartNow toolbar and select Uninstall.

Remove Start Now Toolbar from the browsers

Internet Explorer

1. Open the browser.
2. Press and hold down the Alt key and press T.
3. Select Manage Add-ons.
4. Click on Toolbar and Extensions.
5. Disable Start Now Toolbar.
6. Click on Search Provider.
7. Remove Web Search / Yahoo! And then set a new search provider.
8. Again press Alt+T and select Internet Option.
9. Under the General Tab, change the home page and press Apply.

Mozilla Firefox

1. Open the browser.
2. Press and hold Ctrl, then press and hold down Shift and press A to access Add-ons Manager.
3. Remove StartNow Toolbar.
4. Press Alt+T.
5. Select Options.
6. Under the General tab, change the home page and press OK.

Google Chrome

1. Open the browser.
2. Press and hold down Alt and then press F.
3. Select Tools -> Extensions.
4. Remove Start Now… .
5. Click on Settings on the left-side of the browser.
6. In the On Startup menu, click on the third option.
7. Select Set pages.
8. Remove search.conduit.com and add a new page. Click OK.
9. In the Search section, click on Manage search engines and change the search engine.
