Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

Searchprivacy.live

Searchprivacy.live is a questionable website that promotes a browser extension (Search Privacy), which has been classified as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). This tool has actually been around for about one and a half years but now it seems to have new promotional pages, which are essentially identical. This PUP claims to provide you with privacy and security while you are running web searches. However, our research and tests show that it may collect information about you and present to you manipulated search results containing potentially unreliable third-party ads. Since this extension can also sneak onto your system alongside malware infections, it is important that you stop using it and take care of the present security issues. We recommend that you remove Searchprivacy.live, i.e., this useless PUP from your computer as soon as possible.

You can still find the old promotional webpage at info.searchprivacy.co as well as the Chrome web store page at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search-privacy/gnocdobpfcjjkbegibgedfcddnkbdpdk. The new official page, searchprivacy.live, is practically the identical clone of the previous one with minor changes. It is also true for the new web store page, chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search-privacy/ccchgpflllapfcnllmdncjhckclmmcfh. The only real difference we have found was that the old web store page had some reviews at least. However, reading those reviews should already make you doubt the reliability of this alleged secure search. Some reviews claim that there are malware infections that install this tool and its search results are a joke, taking you to all kinds of other pages instead of the one shown in the results. Some reviewers do not understand the suspiciously good reviews, which really look more like paid or fake ones. In any case, this should be enough for a security-minded user not to install it at all, or if it is has already been installed either knowingly or unknowingly, to delete Searchprivacy.live right away.

But it gets worse because this PUP can also be found in freeware bundles, which usually means multiple threats travelling packed together. When you install a software bundle, you may infect your computer with a bunch of adware programs, browser hijackers, Trojans, fake alerts, keyloggers, and so on. This is why you need to avoid shady torrent, freeware, gaming, betting, dating, and video streaming sites since these are the most likely places that promote unsafe third-party content (banner and pop-up ads) or bundles. We recommend that after your delete Searchprivacy.live, you scan your computer with a reliable online malware scanner.

This PUP does not seem to modify your homepage and new tab settings, but it sets his own server ("searchprivacy.co") as your default search engine. This search engine however should not be trusted because it could expose you to questionable third-party advertisements and sponsored links. It feels like half page is only promoted content. Even though this PUP claims that it is all safe and secure, takes your privacy seriously, we have found that it may actually spy on you and use the collected information to target you with customized advertising. All in all, you should not use this PUP at all because you might end up on malicious websites and being scammed if you were to click on the wrong content. We suggest that you remove Searchprivacy.live as soon as possible.

Fortunately, it is as simple to eliminate this annoying PUP as removing this extension from your affected browsers. Right now it seems that this extension works in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, but in the future, it may also start working in Internet Explorer, too. Please follow our instructions below if you prefer to put an end to this threat source manually. Remember that there may be other and more serious threats on your system. If you want to use a secure computer and browser the web safely, you should make sure that your PC is completely clean of infections. Therefore, we advise you to install a reliable anti-malware program, such as SpyHunter, which can automatically protect your system against all known malware infections and more.
