LazagneCrypt Ransomware

LazagneCrypt Ransomware is a relatively new malware threat that can infiltrate your system without your knowledge; however, the devastation may crash in time to save your files from encryption and total loss. This ransomware program is coded in .NET. The strange thing is that it previously did manage to encrypt a number of victims' files but currently seems to crash upon execution. We have no idea what might have happened to be frank. This also means that it can activate any time and hit hard again. Therefore, you should take this malicious attack seriously even though your files may be saved from encryption this time. It is also important for you to understand how you may have let this potentially dangerous ransomware threat on board. We advise you to remove LazagneCrypt Ransomware immediately but first, let use share with you what we have found out about this infection.

You may believe that such a dangerous infection can only sneak onto your computer without your permission and knowledge. Well, this is partly true because you will not notice it most likely. However, it is most of the time you who actually let such a threat onto your system. This may be a shocker for you now but let us help you know how you can avoid this next time. One way for this ransomware program to appear on your PC is via spam campaigns. You may receive a spam mail with an attachment, which you may believe to be important for you to check out. As a matter of fact, this deceitful spam can lead you to believe that you are dealing with an urgent matter. This will push your curiosity as far as wanting to view the file attachment, which is, unfortunately, the malicious executable file probably in disguise. Obviously, nothing good comes out of your viewing this file. It is only pure luck that this time you may get away with it and you can delete LazagneCrypt Ransomware without losing your files. This should also be a good lesson for those who take malware infections lightly and they may realize the need for a backup.

If you want to prevent such dangerous infections from entering your computer, you should also keep your browsers and your drivers (Flash and Java) up-to-date at all times to avoid being infected by Exploit Kits. These kits can be used to set up traps, i.e., malicious webpages which, when loaded, can drop such an infection behind your back. Even if you realize that this is a suspicious page, by the time you could close the tab or the browser window, it would be too late. In the case of a working version, your files could be encrypted by that time.

As we have mentioned, this ransomware program does not actually work for the time being. It did work previously and encrypted the usual personal files to cause enough damage to push victims to pay the ransom fee. However, something must have happened and the software crashes when you activate it. This infection may copy itself and operate through "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\[3 letters].exe" and we have also found that it may set up a Startup entry ("%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Security.lnk") to automatically start up every time you log in to your Windows. This threat actually got its name from a tool it uses to collect passwords from the local machine. This infection is also supposed to collect information about the victim and his or her machine.

When it works, this ransomware uses the AES algorithm to encrypt your ".bmp", ".jpg", ".jpeg", ".tiff", ".tif", ".gif", ".doc", ".docx", ".ppt", ".pptx", ".xls", ".xlsx", ".png", ".odt", ".ods", ".pdf" files. It seems that these criminals may ask for 25 EUR for the decryption key or tool. However, this time, you will not be exposed to the ransom note as it crashes before it could do any harm anyway. Still, it is essential that you remove LazagneCrypt Ransomware from your system if you want to keep it safe.
