Pracember

You may not even realize that a questionable browser extension called Pracember has sneaked onto your system. This browser extension only works in Google Chrome. We have labeled it as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) but it may also be regarded as a browser hijacker since it actually changes your default search provider setting for Chrome. The truth is that this PUP does not really seem to cause any direct danger but it does have the potential to gather data about you and also, to promote potentially unreliable affiliates even if right now the search results it displays may not contain modified content. Since it is quite unlikely that you have installed this PUP using official channels, chances are your system is swarming with PUPs and malware threats as well. If you would like to restore your system security, we believe that the best way to do so is to remove Pracember from your computer. Please read on to find out more about this useless app and how you can protect your PC from similar threats.

Our research and tests indicate that the most likely way for you to install this extension is by clicking on a compromised third-party advertisement, such as a banner or pop-up ad, or by redirection to its promotional URL where you are pushed to install it. The web can be a dangerous place if you are not aware of the myriads of fake and malicious websites and how to spot them. Unfortunately, lots of potential victims land on such suspicious websites as freeware, torrent, betting, gaming, and pornographic pages. If you are unfamiliar with the page you are viewing, there is a good chance that you may click on content that could redirect you to a malicious page or drop such a PUP or even malware infections onto your system. Another possibility for you to be exposed to such ads is to have an adware program hiding on your system. Such an infection can not only show you corrupt third-party ads while you are peacefully browsing the web but it may also redirect you to websites like the one that offers you its pop-ups.

This pop-up actually instructs you to install this extension if you want to leave the page. This is a rather aggressive and obnoxious way to promote a tool. It is almost as bad as infecting your computer while installing a free software bundle. Of course, in the latter case, you may infect your computer with a number of PUPs and malware infections like browser hijackers, adware programs, Trojans, and fake alerts. If your computer is infected, it is only a matter of time when you will let more threats on board or damage your files by dropping further infections. This is why we recommend that you scan your PC with a trustworthy online malware scanner -- you can use a free one as long as you can trust it -- after you delete Pracember from your browser.

In all fairness, we also need to mention the official channels where this PUP is available for direct installation, namely, its official page, pracember.com, a very simplistic page, and the Chrome web store, chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pracember/kkkhkmpgjdidbhpfcpfpchpldklgagmf. As a matter of fact, its promotional page only contains a big button ("Click here") and that is really all. We do not believe that you have seen any of these pages and installed this PUP knowingly. If we are right, this may be the time to make up your mind and remove Pracember.

This search engine does not even have a page to show you. In fact, it simply sets Pracember.com in your Google Chrome browser as your new default search provider. Therefore, whenever you perform as web search using the address bar, you would use this search engine. However, it simply forwards all your requests to Google and show you Google search results. So far we have not seen this PUP modifying these results to inject questionable promoted affiliates to generate revenue for the creators but this is what usually happens when it comes to no-name search engines. Time will only tell what this PUP may be capable of. For now, it may collect information about you and may even sell this to third parties. Since this PUP does not reveal its legal documents, e.g., Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, we can only guess its third-party policies. As a matter of fact, not sharing these legal documents is yet another reason for you to want to remove Pracember from your computer.

If you have managed to come to a decision, you can use our instructions below to eliminate this PUP from your PC. It is really not rocket science to do so; even if you are an inexperienced user, you can perform these simple steps. Keep in mind though that there could be more serious threats on board as well. It is possible that you do not have the right skills to detect or identify all of them manually, let alone eliminate them. This is why it is worth installing a professional malware removal application like SpyHunter that can automatically take care of all your system security issues regarding malware and PUPs.
