Movies Tab Plus

Browser extensions are supposed to make your life easier, but many of them are unreliable and even malicious. At first sight, Movies Tab Plus might appear to serve you in a useful manner because it, allegedly, can update you on all new movies by providing you with the latest trailers and reviews, along with access to movie news sites and a ticket manager. Although all of that seems great, you need to look at this suspicious extension from all available angles, and if you do that, you will realize that it is not really that great or trustworthy. Our research team has thoroughly analyzed this extension, and it was determined that it is another potentially unwanted program, or “PUP.” Are PUPs reliable and beneficial? Usually, they are the opposite, and so, naturally, we recommend removing Movies Tab Plus. Obviously, you do not want to delete the extension just because it is identified as potentially unreliable. Instead, you want to read this report to learn why exactly it is not reliable, and why eliminating it is the best idea.

If you have downloaded Movies Tab Plus onto your Google Chrome browser already, it is important that you figure out how exactly this potentially unwanted program got in. While it is most likely that it was introduced to you via pop-ups along with other threats that require removal, you might have been introduced to this extension after landing on movies-tab.com. This website presents some movie-related content, but it does not offer any statements regarding the activity of the PUP. If you click the “Get Movies Tab For Chrome” button on this page, you are introduced to the installer that is actually represented at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/movies-tab-plus/eoipicehnkjpalckbmmdiodjpallceli. This source provides us with a link to the Privacy Policy at personal-browser.com/about/privacy.html, which is offered by Babylon Ltd. According to this statement, the extension can use cookies, pixels, web beacons, and similar “technologies” to record information. Some of these “technologies” might belong to unknown third parties responsible for advertising. That is one of the reasons users choose to delete this extension from their browsers. If the extension is installed, the New Tab page is switched to movies-tab.com, and a Privacy Policy becomes available; although through a different link. This is odd behavior.

When Movies Tab Plus is installed, the New Tab page is modified, and if the New Tab page is your homepage, you will see the suspicious movies-tab.com every time you launch the browser. This page displays a bunch of links to movie-related sites, and they are likely to be harmless, but we cannot say the same about the search tool. The “Search” field represents a search engine that shows advertisements. Depending on the search keywords you enter, you are likely to see advertisements before you see normal search results. Of course, this is more likely to happen if you enter keywords not related to movies, but you definitely want to think if a search tool that shows ads is worth keeping around. Also, as mentioned before, the creator of this PUP works with undisclosed parties, and it is known that they can track your activity to showcase more attractive ads. That is not necessarily a great thing because malicious advertisers exist, and they use information to trick users. Whether or not that is the risk you would face when using Movies Tab Plus, it is a real risk, and that is why you should consider removing this PUP.

Movies Tab Plus is just an extension, and so you remove it as one. Once the extension is eliminated, you will not need to deal with the unwanted New Tab page separately. Unfortunately, in most cases, Chrome users let the potentially unwanted program in along with other infections or unwanted programs. Is that the case? Utilize a legitimate malware scanner to inspect your operating system and check if or not other pieces of software must be eliminated from your operating system. If other threats are not found, your operating system should be clean after completing the guide below. If other threats exist, you will need to figure out how to eliminate them all. We suggest using anti-malware software because it is designed to erase all infections automatically. The right tool will also delete Movies Tab Plus.
