Tank Runner

If you have downloaded Tank Runner, the chances are that you did it without thinking or that you were forced into doing it. Our research team has found that this potentially unwanted program (PUP) can be promoted via a page that is represented in full-screen. Needless to say, you do not see that every single day. If you are more experienced, you should have no trouble closing the page with the installer of the suspicious extension. Normally, you can switch between full-screen and normal mode using the F11 key on the keyboard. If that does not work, you can launch Task Manager by tapping Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys and then terminate the process representing your browser. If the annoying installer page does not show up again, it is most likely that that was a one-time occurrence. If you are shown the same installer again, you need to be worried. In both cases, it is crucial to inspect the operating system because malware or adware might exist. If it does, it must be deleted. In this report, we also discuss how to remove Tank Runner, which you might be interested in if you have let this PUP in.

The same adware sever, http://onclickrev.com/afu.php?zoneid=1407888&var=1407888, is responsible for introducing users to Tank Runner and Toothy, which is another potentially unwanted program that our research team recommends removing. Both of these PUPs used to have installers available on the Chrome web store, but both have been taken down because of the bad reputation they obtained. When the Chrome web store installer representing Tank Runner was still active, zjsbsj.com was listed as its developer. This website, of course, does not work, and the page that used to be shown in full screen – zjsbsj.com/ins/?id – does not work either. When it did, it would show a pop-up suggesting that the installation of the extension is “recommended.” Also, the disclaimer shown via the pop-up would indicate that Chrome’s Default Search would be modified alongside. So, if you have downloaded the suspicious add-on, you need to check if your default search provider was modified as well. If it was, hopefully, the settings will be restored as soon as you delete the add-on.

Officially, Tank Runner was promoted as an interactive, team-based game, but trusting the information that is curated by software developers is not always a good idea. While this extension might allow you to play a game, it might also be used to spy on you, record information, communicate with unknown parties, load advertisements, and do other strange things. It would be dangerous to say that you are completely safe while Tank Runner is active. At this moment, this suspicious extension does not have an official download page, and there is no way of knowing how exactly it works. Since it is completely unpredictable, we recommend deleting it from your browser as soon as possible. The good news is that eliminating this suspicious, undesirable extension is very easy. What might be more complicated is the elimination of third-party infections active on your PC. Use an authentic malware scanner to help you identify the threats that are active. Once you are aware of that, you can take the right steps.

If you have experience removing Google Chrome extensions, you should have no trouble deleting Tank Runner as well. Before you get rid of this potentially unwanted program, we advise inspecting your operating system with a legitimate malware scanner to check if other infections are active. If any threats are detected, hopefully, they are not highly malicious, and you can eliminate them yourself. If you cannot clean your infected operating system yourself, installing an anti-malware tool is recommended. Of course, you have to make sure that this tool is legitimate and reliable; otherwise, it will not help you. Regardless of which method you choose, you have to make sure that your virtual security is taken care of. Needless to say, that is solved if you install trustworthy anti-malware software, but if you choose to clean your PC and browsers manually, that is something you need to think about. Remember that if you do not install security software, other PUPs and, unfortunately, more serious infections, could invade your operating system.
