The Affirmativo

The Affirmativo is a browser extension advertised as a piece of software that can hide browsing records. In other words, it should enable users to surf the web and search for the information anonymously. Yes, we have to admit that users’ search queries and other non-personally identifiable details might be recorded on certain pages, but it is not very likely that a simple browser extension like The Affirmativo could ensure the full anonymity, especially when it is considered a potentially unwanted program, or PUP, by specialists at pcthreat.com. According to them, there is a huge possibility that The Affirmativo is not as beneficial as it claims to be. On top of that, research has shown that it might enter computers without permission, which proves that it does not act as a completely decent program. Although The Affirmativo is, originally, a Google Chrome extension, it could have affected your other browsers too, so it might not be enough to erase this extension from Chrome only. Yes, you have arrived at a logical conclusion – we recommend erasing it because it is not exactly what it claims to be, i.e. we do not think that you could surf the web anonymously with its help.

It used to be possible to download The Affirmativo from the Chrome store some time ago, but it is no longer possible to do that at the time of writing. It was promoted there as a decent extension with a unique ID fcepmpemlpoocmfeaapoakhbfofgkknc. Its description told users that it is “an awesome extension” capable of hiding browsing details and, as a consequence, allowing users to surf the web anonymously, so it is not surprising that some users downloaded it willingly. We can assure you that this extension is not what it claims to be. Actually, we do not even think that it can really make it possible to stay anonymous because, as research conducted by malware researchers has shown, it only filters search results containing the word “Trump,” and this is, most probably, the only activity it performs on affected systems. We cannot explain what the point of doing that is, but we are sure for one thing – you could not access certain pages unless you remove The Affirmativo, and it might take it longer to find the relevant information on the web since this extension will remove certain search results a search provider you use will return to you. As you can see, there are not much positive things we can say about this extension.

It is no longer possible to download The Affirmativo from the Chrome web store. It is, most probably, gone because it has turned out that it is not a trustworthy extension. It does not mean that it is no longer distributed and users cannot find it on their PCs. Specialists say that users might still encounter this extension because it is still distributed bundled with third-party software. Also, it might be available for download on some kind of file-sharing or a similar page belonging to third parties. Of course, it is still more likely that the majority of users download and install these malicious software bundles. No matter what the story behind the appearance of this undesirable browser extension is, you must remove it from those affected browsers as soon as possible – it is the only way to disable it. Then, to ensure the system’s maximum protection, install reputable security software. Its job is not to allow potentially unwanted programs and much more serious infections to enter the system ever again.

It should be enough to simply delete the The Affirmativo extension from affected browsers via the Add-ons Manager to make it gone once and for all, but we still recommend resetting these browsers to default one by one because other changes could have been applied to them as well. Users who are going to reset their browsers for the first time might find this procedure quite complicated, so we have prepared the manual removal guide – it can be found below this article. If the undesirable extension does not leave your browsers alone after resetting browsers, or you simply find the manual method too challenging, let a reputable automatic malware remover help you. Just acquire a powerful tool, install it, and then fully scan your computer with it.
