Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

Indiashopps

Indiashopps is a new Google Chrome browser extension that may not be a good idea to use. Our research shows that this tool mainly targets computer users in India. This application can compare prices among several online shops to provide you with best deals as well as coupons. We are not really convinced that this tool is all reliable though. In fact, we have labeled it as a potentially unwanted program, or PUP. You may believe that just because this PUP does not mean direct threat to your system, it is all okay to leave it in your browser. However, it is quite likely that this tool slithers onto your computer along with malicious software installers that may pose a real threat to your virtual security. Because of its capability to show up with other threats, we advise you to remove Indiashopps from your PC along with every other questionable and malicious program as well.

There is an online shop page, indiashopps.com, which is created by the authors of this PUP. However, we did not find any options there to download this application, only the mobile version. What we also did not find was the usual legal documents, such as the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use. If you do not find these documents on a website, you should start doubting its intentions right away. This PUP is available from the Chrome web store, chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/indiashopps/pgoackgjjkpbkjoomkklkofbhpkbeboc, as the only official source. If you check the reviews, you will find that there are users complaining about the coupons that they did not get or could not use. In all fairness, we also need to mention that the representative of the company did try to contact such users to send them the coupons directly. But we do not think that this is how most users install this PUP.

Our research indicates that you can allow this program to enter your system when you are installing a freeware bundle. You need to be extra careful every time you are installing a software package as you may not know the real content unless you check it out for yourself. The installers of such bundles can be quite tricky in order to confuse inexperienced users. You may need to go for the custom installation option so that you can see the list of additional programs and browser changes that are usually represented by checkboxes. These checkboxes are generally ticked by default to make sure that the infections get installed unless the user decides otherwise. Unfortunately, this is the most frequent way for users to infect their computer with a bunch of threats in one go. Clearly, it will not be enough for you to delete Indiashopps from your browser because there could be adware programs, browser hijackers, backdoors, keyloggers, fake alerts, and more hiding on your system. This is why we recommend that you run a reliable malware scanner on your PC to identify all the possibly risky programs.

If you are a computer user from India, chances are you want to have tool in your browsers that helps you save time and money as most of these price comparing programs like to claim. The first bad piece of news about the services of this PUP is that it only works for Google Chrome. This extension installs a button on your toolbar. If you click on this button, you open the indiashopps.com shopping site on a new tab. This tool also displays best deals and coupons when you go shopping online. It is supposed to collect prices from dozens of online shops, including babyoye.com, crossword.in, and ebay.in, and show you the best available prices, comparisons, etc. However, since this tool does not have legal documents available, you do not have any guarantee that it does not share collected data about you to questionable third parties. Also, what if cyber criminals can exploit this low-quality extension and use it to promote their own websites. This could end with you landing on a fake webshop page that seemingly sells you a product but instead, it will only steal your credit card details and then, your money from the bank. When you click on potentially unreliable third-party ads this PUP might show, it is also possible that you infect your computer with more serious threats, such as adware applications and browser hijackers. We believe that you should remove Indiashopps if you plan to use a secure computer in the future.

The only good thing we can mention about this PUP is that it is quite easy to eliminate it if you simply remove the unwanted extension using your browser menu. We have included the necessary instructions below, which you can use if you are not familiar with these steps. If you want to protect your computer, you need to keep all your programs and drivers always updated. This can prevent cyber criminals to attack you via Exploit Kits and other tricks exploiting security holes in older software versions. But, if you are looking for proper protection for your PC, we advise you to apply a reliable anti-malware program, such as SpyHunter.
