- Hijacks homepage
- Changes default search engine
Do you tend to install unfamiliar software carelessly? If that is the case, Search.heasyspeedtest.co is one of the many infections you might let in without even realizing the danger. This browser hijacker is represented as a normal search engine with the ability to test your Internet speeds directly from the home page. The funny thing is that this search engine is identical to Search.searcheasysta.com, Search.searchgstt.com, Search.superspeedtester.com, and many other hijackers created by Polarity Technologies Ltd. Why are there so many identical tools that offer the exact same service? That is so that the developer of these hijackers could reach more users and then expose them to third-party content. If you have used the search tool offered by the hijacker already, you know that it redirects to Yahoo Search, and you might have noticed yourself that advertisements are included in the results shown. If you do not understand why that is a reason to remove Search.heasyspeedtest.co, you should read this report.
Search.heasyspeedtest.co is officially represented by an extension called “Easy Speed Test.” It was created by the same company as the hijacker. The website representing this add-on is easyspeedtest.co/SpeedTest, but its installer is different depending on which browser you use. The site hosts an installer for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer users, but Google Chrome users are introduced to the installer hosted at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/easy-speed-test-v30/klidebegchinehnleiakbcbnmmpmcice. It was found that the installation of this add-on is different for every browser as well. The hijacker changes the New Tab on Chrome, but Firefox users are forced to modify homepage and/or search provider settings. Internet Explorer users do not have a choice at all, and if they want Easy Speed Test, they have to agree with homepage, search provider, and New Tab changes. As you might understand already, the only purpose of this extension is to introduce the user to Search.heasyspeedtest.co. Besides that, the add-on is useless, and so its removal is strongly recommended as well. Depending on the browser you use, that might be all it takes to delete the browser hijacker itself.
The main reason we advise deleting Search.heasyspeedtest.co is because this hijacker spies on you. Using tracking cookies, this infection can record your browsing history and your interaction with the content you face (e.g., advertisements), and it can collect data about your PC and browsers. The worst part is that the threat can record information that is personally identifiable. It must not be forgotten that the suspicious Search.heasyspeedtest.co also redirects searches to a third-party site without any warning. Unfortunately, this move is premeditated, and the hijacker redirects to Yahoo Search, which is a well-known and well-perceived search tool. Some users are likely to trust the results shown and interact with them without any hesitation. Unfortunately, that could be a mistake because there is a possibility that the links shown are malicious and can redirect to unreliable sites. Needless to say, you have to think about this; especially if you still believe that the hijacker is harmless and that you want to continue using it.
There is nothing that should stop you from deleting Search.heasyspeedtest.co. If you want a speed tester, you can find one online, and if you want to use Yahoo Search as your default search provider, you can set that up. When it comes to the homepage, you can use any site you want, except for this useless browser hijacker. There is no doubt that it is easiest to get rid of this infection with the help of an automated malware remover, which you can enable by installing legitimate anti-malware software. Note that although the hijacker can be acquired with an extension that has an official download source, it can also be spread via software bundles full of malware. If malicious infections exist, they will be deleted by the anti-malware tool as well, and so that is the best option. If you decide to go ahead with manual removal, remember that the threat must be approached differently on every browser it affects. Hopefully, you have no issues with the removal, but if you do, do not hesitate to contact us via the comments section.
